My grandmother, Hanora M. English, known as Nora or Nonie, was b. 28 Aug 1897 and bapt. 2 Sep 1897 in
Anglesboro, dau. of John English, Jr. and Ellen Gallahue. She was enumerated in the 1901 and 1911 Irish censuses with her family members. She immigrated to the U.S., arriving on 24 Jan 1920. All of her surviving siblings arrived in the U.S. in 1924/25. She married David Francis Gleeson of Glenaglogh South, Cork, Ireland in Los Angeles, CA in 1921.
Great grandparents - John English, Jr. (1862-1943) and Ellen Gallahue (1861-1918). They married 1 Mar 1892 in Anglesboro. As a widower, he sold the family homestead located across from St. Patrick's Church in Anglesboro totaling 96+ acres in Lackendarragh and 14+ acres in Anglesboro in 1925 to John O'Donnell and moved to the U.S. to be near his children.
All of John Jr.'s surviving siblings immigrated to the U.S. in the 1880s and 1890s.
Would like burial/cemetery information on Ellen Gallahue English who died on 16 Apr 1918. Same with their dau. Margaret Theresa English who died on 24 Mar 1913.
Great-great grandparents - John English, Sr. (ca 1823-1896) and Hanora Caplice/Caplis (1833-1913). They married 22 Feb 1857 in Clogheen, Tipperrary.
Four of John Sr.'s siblings were known to have immigrated to the U.S. in the 1870s and 1880s; one remained in Lisnalanniv [Michael English who married Margaret O'Donnell 7 Feb 1863 in Galbally and Aherlow], and I have no further information on two others - Edmond English, b. 8 Apr 1832 in Kilbehenny and David English, b. 28 Mar 1834 in Kilbehenny.
Would like information on Edmond and David English.
Would like burial/cemetery information on Hanora Caplis English who died 11 Aug 1913 in Anglesboro. Same for husband John Sr. who died 23 Aug 1896.
Also, Michael Gallahue (ca 1831-??) and Margaret Burke. They married ca 1858. No further information on Margaret Burke.
Great-great-great grandparents - Maurice English (ca 1792-1874) and Johanna/Judith/Joan Piggot/Picket/Picquet. They married 10 Feb 1822 in Galbally. Her father may have been Patrick Piggot. No further information on Joanna Piggot English.
The father of Maurice may have been the John English who was included in the Tithe Applotment Books as a tenant of two lots totaling 48 acres in Lisnalanniv.
Maurice English took tenancy of the Anglesboro/Lackendarragh property on 9 Sep 1861 from his son-in-law, Thomas Moher, Jr. who received the property from his father, Thomas Moher, Sr. of Ballyard, Cork in 1856. In 1856, Thomas Jr. married Johanna English, dau. of Maurice English and wife Joanna Piggot.
Maurice also was a tenant on parcels in Lisnalanniv and Coolnamohoge.
Also, Daniel Gallaghue (1792-1878) and Bridget Mullins. They married 1820 in Galbally and Aherlow.
Also, Maurice Caplice/Caplis and Honora Dobyn of Clogheen, Tipperary.
I have compiled considerable information on the three generations of the English family members of the Anglesboro area who immigrated to the U.S.
I would like as much information as possible about their lives in Ireland.

Hi Amanda,
Wondering if Mr. O Mahoney has made any progress on my inquiry. It's been nearly 17 months since my original inquiry and I'm a bit concerned that I may never hear from him. Would you check in with him and let me know the status? Thank you for your assistance.

Hi Scott, I came across your post and thought I would leave this message. I too am researching the English clan of Clogheen. You asked about an Edmond English born 8 Apr 1832. Frequently, the names Edmond and Edward were interchangeable and I have been researching an Edward English who was born about 1833 according to the 1901 census. He died sometime between 1901 and 1911, was married to Anne, and had (at least) 4 children - 3 girls and a boy: Mary, Delia, Hannah, & John
They were quite a well-to-do family and had 3 servants.
The son John may have married Ellen Christina Prendergast in 1918 and had a daughter Mary in 1929, who in turn had a daughter in 1952.
Here is the link to the census data with this (and more) information. Hope it helps.

I also have some more information which I am happy to share - just email me.

Hi Amanda,
I've attached two photos in long-overdue thanks and appreciation for the warm welcome afforded my wife Mary and myself - along with the family of Kathy Gordon English - last September in Anglesboro and the surrounding area.
Among the many highlights of our stay, two truly stand out. First, our fantastic host and personal guide, Patrick English of Annaslinga, singlehandedly arranged a moving Saturday evening mass at St. Patrick's in Anglesboro followed by a crazy loud party at the pub across the street. Such a great evening.
But nothing tops the earlier visit with Willie O'Mahoney at his home, along with Patrick and my wife, Mary. As we entered his kitchen, he greeted us as long lost friends and handed me some papers. It took me a moment to realize that it was the email that I wrote on the Kilbehenny parish message board years ago. Then I noticed his handwritten responses to my questions. We chatted non-stop. I couldn't believe his positive energy. His eyes lit up and he talked a mile a minute as he answered nearly all of my questions. Such a special time that I'll never forget.
Not long after, Patrick let me know Willie had passed away. Patrick said the talk at his funeral was that he couldn't leave this world until he answered my questions in person. Well, I don't know about that but it's a great story.
Please share my warmest greetings and thanks to everyone who made our stay so memorable. Mary and I look forward to our next visit.

Hi Everyone,
I know I'm a bit late to the game but I am currently researching my boyfriends family tree.
The info I have maybe a bit sarce but I am hoping it's the same English family.
So my Boyfriends great grandmother on his dads side (His dads mom) was Mary English and he said she was from Anglesboro, ballylanders.
She married a James Murphy and they lived in Cork. I'm guessing around and between 1950-1957. I don't have much info as his dad doesn't really remember his grandparents.
I am not sure if they married in Cork, but he thinks that James met mary here in Cork. She was a care assistant or nurse.
I cant seem to find any birth records or her parents names. Marriage cert that shows is saying the registration was in Kilmallock, but I'm not sure that is right.
Any info or insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Aoife
