Hello Johanna. I'm wondering if your Margaret Slattery may have been related to my great grandfather, Patrick Slattery who was married to Mary Murphy. They were from the Kilbehenny area. They had at least three children, John, Terrence and Ann Honoria, all of whom came to Australia some time in the mid 1860's. The order of birth has not been established as there appear to be inconsistencies in ages.
All three lived in far North Queensland from the early 1870's. Terry was my grandfather. Both he and brother John were miners while their sister, Mrs Stephen O'Neill, was a midwife in Cooktown.
I have made earlier posts on the Kilbehenny site. If you can add anything, I'd be really grateful.
Thanks.
Wendy

Thanks Wendy,
William Walsh was an assisted immigrant. He arrived in Australia 5/11/1885. I can't find anything about Cooktown but maybe his ship called there before he disembarked in Townsville. This William is the youngest child of Margaret Slattery and Thomas Walsh of Kilbeheny.
William spent all his working life (that I know of) with the Queensland Railway.
Perhaps your Slatterys were his cousins and the reasdon he came to Queensland?
I think I need to find the Batpism records for the children to look at sponsors. There are so many unknowns and no-one to ask!
