Searching for info on Daniel P Murphy dob abt 1835 Loghill, Rahtkeale. dod April 8 1893 Chicago IL. father is Denis and mom unknown. brothers are Michael (married to Margaret Enright) who both emigrated to Melbourne Australia May 1860 to meet a Michael Shanahan. other brother is Patrick who ended up living in Mound City, Puaski County IL.
Daniel P Murphy married Anne Dunne. Her dob is Aug 1838 and dod is Sept 13 1901 in Chicago. She lists her emigration date as 1850 when she would be 12 years old.
I have searched the 2001 publication West Limerick Families Abroad by Kate Press. I cannot find Daniel P Murphy listed in the various family lineages given in that volume.
I assume Daniel and Anne married in Chicago. But does anyone know of either family in Loghill? Especially Daniel since this is listed as his birthspot in his obituary in Chicago papers.
So grateful for any help.....I hope to visit Loghill area possibly later this year...would that be useful?

The Tithe Applotments (free online) have 332 Murphys in Limerick in 1825 but only 2 in Rathkeale one of which is John from Loughill and Islandbay. There were only 7 people there at the time.
I tried to find them in Griffiths Valuation (free online) but the site would not cooperate once I chose the county!

Hi Col--and all other Loughill researchers!
thank you so much. So when I look at maps and locations, is it reasonable to assume that Loughill can also be identified as Newcastle West? It seems on many maps some of these townlands have Newcastle West in parenthesis next to the name. Is that reasonable do you think?
thanks to all and everyone for advice!

Hello again...done some more research. I have borrowed via my university the book All Ireland is in and about Rathkeale by Patrick J O'Connor who I believe is/was a Prof of Geography (and history?) at Univ of Limerick. While outlining the early influences on Sean O'Faolain he remarks that according to 1850 Griffith Valuation O'Faolain's grandmother was Margaret Power Murphy and held 40 acres in Loghill. My ancestor is Daniel P Murphy of Loghill born 1831-1834 with the brothers, Patrick and Michael mentioned above. Is there some way to check out the husband of Margaret Power Murphy....it seems likely he is related to my Murphys. How many Murphy families were there in Loughill 1820-1850? I tried to do Sean O'Faolain tree research on Ancestry but couldn't find anything. Does anyone from Loughill area know about the O'Faolain (Whalen)Murphy clan? I teach 19 Cent Victorian Lit so I know he is a canonical author for Irish Lit of 20th century. I am hoping someone can provide some guidance on seeing if there is a link between the two Murphy clans from Loughill.
I am always SO grateful for all help I receive from the great community at Ireland Reaching Out!

Col--again so much thanks!! you are a treasure. I have a textual clarification: I found through NLI via Find My Past a marriage records for Denis Murphy and Mary Cronin on 3 mar 1829 in Newcastle West. It lists marriage by R E Capew (unclear writing so could be wrong name). Would this be a priest? even without a "Rev" or "PP" next to it. Then it lists "presented by Thomas Cronin and James Grady". Would these be the witnesses? Two men? or what does "presented by" mean?
Thanks for any insight!

Well done on finding it Jeannie!
Your assumptions re the priest & witnesses sound correct to me; I assume they were RC.
