Hi

my 3 x gg mother was Mary Vandeleur born abt 1836 Sixmilebridge co Clare.  Mary migrated to Australia sometime before 1859 when she married Robert Anderson (Scottish) in Amhurst, Victoria, Australia.  On her marriage certificate she noted her parents as James Vandeleur and Margaret McNamara.  I have been searching everything possible but so far have been unable to find James Vandeleur and Margaret McNamara as well as Mary's birth details etc.  I would love some help if there is anyone out there that could give me a hand or some pointers where to look.

Thanks so much

  • Hi Kerryn:

Many thanks for your query to Ireland Reaching Out.  You might try looking at the National Library of Ireland website which has uploaded all the microfilmed parish registers that they hold.  Their website is:  http://www.nli.ie/en/parish-register.aspx.  You will need to look at the Sixmilebridge register in the Diocese of Killaloe.  You will note that the registers start in or about 1828 and there appear to be three books.  Also note that the registers are in Latin.  You can filter by month and year.  Do you think that the Vandeleurs were Church of Ireland?  If so, let me know and I will see if I can help with the Protestant records.  However, I believe that they don't go back that far.

Any questions, please get back to me at:  tulla@irelandxo.com

    Good luck!!

  • thanks so much for the suggestion but I have been going through that site,  I am finding it very hard to read but so far haven't found anything on her.  From what I have been told the Vandeleurs in the older days were not RC  but later they were

  • My name is Ann Schlitt and I manage a website containing, among others, the family tree of all the Vandeleurs of Ireland and the UK (one large family).  The posts I am responding to are quite old, so I imagine that by now you have made some progress in your quest.  I would love to learn what you have accomplished so far and also possibly help you out as well.

The URL below will take you to Mary Vandeleur Anderson on my Vandeleur web page.  Any comments and help with my unresolved Vandeleur issues (mostly shown in red) would be very much appreciated!
