Hello- I will be visiting Co. Longford on October 24th-25th and I am trying to locate the farm of my ggg grandfather, John Mulvany. I have located the records through the Griffiths Valuation but the map will not come up on that site. However, I did find a copy of the map on a genealogy site. Based on tithe records, I have John's father living at that property in 1823 and 1833 and the 1901 and 1911 census has John's son, Francis Mulvany resided there. Additionally, Francis's death record has him dying there in 1923 but I can't find any later connections. This could be a once in a lifetime visit so I was hoping I could avoid having to go to Dublin for records because my time is limited and I would like to spend my time on the ground looking for my families graves. Any advice or direction would be very appreciated.
Thank you,
Loresia Cosgrove

If you have not done so already, please complete this form https://www.irelandxo.com/meet-and-greet regarding your trip to Ireland.
The 1923 civil death record shows that Thomas Mulvaney son was the informant. Presumably Thomas took over the farm. I checked the civil death records from 1923-1972 and there was no Thomas Mulvaney death registered in that period in the Granard registration district. Thomas was 35 in 1911 and 47 or so in 1923. Likely his death was not recorded. Thomas was unmarried in 1911 and I checked for any civil marriage records and found none so likely he remained unmarried.

Roger-
Thank you! I completed I completed that form. Was it common for a death to go unreported in the 1900s? I have others that I can't find and I was assuming they must have immigrated somewhere else.

I can't give you an exact percentage but it would have been under 10% unreported. Maybe Thomas got rid of the farm and emigrated but he was around 47 when Francis died. I know you don't want to go to Dublin but at this time the Valuation Office is the only place with the records showing transfer of ownership. Ironically, the comparable records for the six counties in Northern Ireland have been available online for probably 10 years. Eventually, the records for the 26 counties in the Republic of Ireland will be online but we may see the 1926 census online first.
