Here is the civil marriage index record. You can write to the GRO www.groireland for a copy of the record and it should show the names of the fathers for the bride and groom and where they lived in 1876.

Fill out their form, provide the year of marriage, registration district (Ballymahon), and the volume and page number (18 and 29) Costs 4 euros. I have also included the 1901 census record for the family. In 1911, I could not find James and Anne in Derryveagh but there are two Miley families likely brothers to your Anne. I assume James and Anne may have died. I will check.

I found these two death index records on www.familysearch.org. I assume they are for your James and Anne. No other Miley death index records for Ballymahon. You can write to the GRO for these records also.

On www.rootsireland.ie, several years ago, I found James Miley married to Anne Murphy (Anne #1). They had several children, one of whom was William. Marriage ages - in their 20's I seem to recall. The family is listed in a book at Longford Library as well. On the rootsireland website, there's also James Miley married to Anne Kelly (Anne #2). On their 1876 marriage certificate his age is 40; hers is 30. Your death information shows a closer age gap for them ... of course, if they didn't have to provide birth certificates, it could be just a socially-accepted reason for Anne's younger age. I found them with children (1901 census) Patrick, Peter, Annie and Elizabeth. These are my great-grandparents, grandmother Annie, great-uncles Patrick and Peter, and great-aunt Elizabeth. It is possible Elizabeth died young as I have not found her on the 1911 census and the GRO has no record for her.

Question #1:  Are there two James Mileys or did Anne Murphy (Anne #1) die and James remarry in 1876?  I have to figure this out but tend to believe he married again after a death. Reason: #1) My grandparent's children were parceled out to relatives after their deaths (1918), with one daughter going to a William Miley living in Brooklyn, New York where they had also lived.  I found only one William on the rootsireland website, son of James and Anne Murphy; #2) James' age upon later marriage in 1876.

In 1985 my mom and dad visited Derryveigh and met John Miley whom they told me was dad's first cousin. John Miley died in early 1990's and I found out later that he's buried in Kilcommock cemetery. My great-grandparents may also be buried there. I met John Miley's granddaughter in 2011 who didn't know how we would be related.

Question #2: Is William a stepbrother to Anne Miley Cooke or a cousin/some other relative? If not related, how was John Miley my dad's first cousin?

If it's possible to obtain a parish priest's/secretary's name and address, I could wirite and ask to check church records. So far, I have not contacted anyone in Kilcommock parish.
