Hi everyone,
My 2nd great-grandmother was Ann(a) HALPIN and she was born in 1828 in Arthurstown. On her tombstone, it says that she was from Arthurstown, County Louth. Seven years ago, I went to Tallanstown, which is the closest town with a church (that I know of), and spent a couple hours with the parish priest, going over birth records for Anna, hopefully to find her baptism and her parents names. As much as we looked, we couldn't find her. I need help in suggestions on where else I can look and any recommendations on what I need to do to go further on this side of my family in Ireland. Here are the names of her siblings - Catherine, Richard, Constantine, Margaret, and John. I can't find Anna on a passenger list (haven't looked for the others), but I do know that she immigrated to Brooklyn, New York about 1853 and married John McKENNA, sometime in 1855. She died in Brooklyn, New York on 17 May 1889 and is buried with her husband at the Holy Cross RC Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York.
Thank you. Kathleen Tracy

You say that Anna was born c 1828. There’s a gap in the Tallanstown RC parish records from 1825 to 1830, so that may explain why you cannot locate her baptism. The relevant records are lost or missing. See:
https://www.johngrenham.com/records/rc_church.php?county=Louth&parish=Tallanstown&churchid=234
I see a baptism in the Tallanstown records for a Margaret Halpin on 24.11.1818 to John Halpin & Margaret Byrne. There’s also a Cath Halpin on 19.4.1811 to Pat Halpin and Mary Byrne. Plus a John Halpin on 6.8.1811 to Richard Halpin & Cath Fox. No trace of any Richard or Constantine baptisms.

Dear Elwyn,
My thanks to you for finding the above information. I don't know the names of Anna's parents to confirm any of her sibling's baptisms. I was hoping that the name of Constantine would be a big plus! Hahaa But I guess not. I will keep the above information until I can try and connect the dots here in America, hoping that I will find a death certificate with parent's names on one of them. I still need to get all death certs. Thanks again for being so kind. Kathleen, Connecticut
