My great grandfather Patrick Horan was born in Cloonkeen between 1837-1839. I could not find his birth record but did find one for his sister Bridget in 1843 to Michael Horan and Winnifred White. There was s also a son Michael born in 1851 but I could find no other children. There were other White's in a townland called Tullycommons but none in Cloonkeen. There are a couple of other Horan's there. I found some birth records for White on a website in the townland of Knucklough but could not that townland anywhere. Could you tell me how far Tullycommons is from Cloonkeen and would it be a possibility that they were from there. Also what church would the people of Cloonkeen go to today. thank you -Sally

Cloonkeen and Tully Commons are both townlands within the civil parish of Aglish, Co. Mayo. Cloonkeen townland Aglish is located between the towns of Castlebar & Westport, Tully Commons townland is to the north not far from Lough Mallard and about 9km (c5.5. miles) by road from Cloonkeen townland. See google map route
Aglish is a large civil parish, and includes the town of Castlebar. The Catholic parish was listed sometimes as 'Eglish, Ballyhane, and Breaghfy', named after the civil parishes covered, and in the 1830s had chapels at Castlebar and Ballyhane (Ballyhean), and Breaghy. Castlebar would be the current parish, and it appears that there are currently three churches for the parish in operation at or near the same locations.- see : Castlebar Catholic Parish Cloonkeen townland looks to be about the same distance from both Castlebar and Ballyheane.
Baptism records for the parish go back to January 1838, so might be a little late to include the baptism of your Patrick. Marriage records go back a little further to 1824. See Parish of Castlebar/Aglish, Ballyhean and Breaghny/Breaghwy (NLI Catholic Parish Register Images)
note : there are at least two other townlands named Cloonkeen in Co. Mayo, one in Kilmeena civil parish and the other in Tagheen civil parish.
