Does anyone know if the full parents names are listed on a Civil Death cert from 1890?
I found a Charles Toohill in Ballybrooney, Mayo and think he could be my ggguncle but not sure. Can I write to Ballina and get a copy? Or does anyone know a less expensive way since I will probably be guessing a lot until I find the right answer and my 'guesses' may become expensive.
Thanks,

No Irish death certificates do not routinely record parents names. You might occasionally get a parents name in the case of a child where one of the parents may be the informant (and that?s usually noted) and also the occupation sometimes says something like ?son of X?.
You can order a photocopy of a birth, death or marriage cert from GRO Roscommon for ?4 per certificate, if you have the full details. You obviously have the year and place. To complete that you need the quarter, volume and page number which you can get from the Irish civil indexes on familysearch. Put the place, year, quarter, volume & page number on the application form (anywhere). Don?t worry about leaving some boxes blank. You don?t need to fill them all in if you have the reference details. http://www.groireland.ie/ You have to post or fax the form to them but they will e-mail the copy certificate to you if you wish. Tick the relevant box on the form.

Hi Eileen
The record is available at www.rootsireland.ie/ - a less expensive option.
You'll need to purchase credit to view it and I can't guarantee what information is on there.
He was aged 48.

Col,
I wouldn't totally agree with you that rootsireland is cheaper. The normal price for a birth, death or marriage transcript record on rootsireland is ?5, making that slightly more expensive than getting them from GRO Roscommon (though there is a special offer on till 4th December which means rootsireland are temporarily about ?3). However you don?t always get all the information that?s on the original certificate, and there can also occasionally be transcription errors.

Hi again Eileen
Given the above advice I decided to find out what information was on the record so that you can make a better-informed decision as to how best to proceed.
I got the record from rootsireland and it has the following:
Name: Charles Toohil Date of death: 10 Apr 1809
Age: 48 Parish / District: CROSSMOLINA
Address: Ballybrooney County: Mayo
Status: Married Denomination: Roman Catholic
Occupation: Farmer Sex: Male
Graveyard Parish & County all blank
INFORMANT
Relationship: Son
Name: James Toohil
Address: Ballybrooney
Notes: Influenza, 3 weeks uncertified, no medical attendant
So no parents' names but a son's name.
I think I've managed to attach it.
If he was 48 in 1890 he was born 1842 or 41 but there was no birth record on rootsireland in any county for Charles Toohill - closest was Charles Toole 1840 Dublin & Charles Toole 1841 Wicklow

Thank you everyone. This is very helpful.
I don't know what website I found but they were charging 44 euros per record; so I was stressing out about the cost.
This is very helpful. Thank you everyone.
