My great great grandfather left Kilkian parish sometime in the famine years. The first real evidence I have of him in Canada is a marriage at St.Paul's Basilica in Toronto in 1856 to Julie McHale, a fellow refuge from Kilkian parish according to the marriage record.
I'm looking for information on the Dean family origins. I've seen it spelled Deane as well, but we finally settled on Dean.

Dawn:
The Mormon Church has microfilmed the Kilfian RC church records for 1826-1844 which should include the baptism for John and possibly Julia. https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/480964?availability=Family%20History%20Library You order the film online at www.familysearch.org and the film is sent to a local Family History Center near you. The records may not be very legible and possibly in Latin.
I also looked at the Tithe Applotment records for Deans and found six records including four in Kilfian parish. There were also 17 McHale records in Kilfian parish. Too many to copy so here is the URL http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/

Dawn,
Griffiths Valuation was a survey of heads of households, between 1848 and 1864. There are a number of Dean families listed. My guess is your great great grandfather wouldn't be listed, but probably his father. You can find more information here:
The tithes, as mentioned above, would be from about 1832.
If you want more information about Kilfian Parish, you can read here:
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~irlmayo2/kilfian_cp_characteristics.htmlKilfian Parish suffered badly during the Great Hunger of 1846 - 1850:
"Kiflian Civil Parish saw almost a 50% drop in its population between 1841 (6,064) and 1851 (3,348). That number continued to decline and by the year 1911 there were only 1,750 people residing in this Civil Parish."Finally, you can find some birth and marriage records for Kilfian parish here:

Feel free to ask more questions. My ancestors also came from Kilfian.
