I have been researching a story my grandmother told over 20 years ago about her great grandfather being a schoolmaster and dying in the famine. On a recent trip to Ireland I found him as a schoolmaster in Schoolsalary books at the archives. He was schoolmaster in Devlin from 1836 to 1839 when the school was "struck off". His name was Peter Lally and he was 32 in 1836. I can find no other information about him. My great great grandmother was his daughter, born about 1832. I can find no other information about her but pick her up in England in the 1860 census. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

From what you have written in your post, it sounds as if your great-great grandmother and her family left Ireland shortly after the Famine and went to England. Have you checked the earlier English Censuses of 1851 and 1841? That may help to narrow down the search.
In addition, there may have been some newspaper reports about the school being struck off and you might consider looking at those newspapers in the area that did exist at that time. Irish Newspaper Archives might be a good place to start.
