I'm trying to trace my family tree and I have found that my Grandma (Sarah Doherty) on my fathers side (Terence O'Connell) of Burnley in Lancashire, her mother was a Bridget Gargan of Drogheda.
Bridget appears to have moved to Burnley in the late 1870's from Drogheda and married a James Doherty in Burnley, St. Mary's church in 1883.
Bridgets mother was Mary Gargan of Duleek Street and shows in the 1901 census as living with her son Michael, aged 40. Mary's husband was a Michael Gargan and he's not in the 1901 census.
I'm now trying to trace the Gargan family both before and after Bridget in Drogheda.
thanks

Hi Pat
I replied last week from my iPhone but it does not appear to have worked.
Thanks for all the information - much appreciated. I will follow up on the areas you highlighted.
I'm wondering if theres is a local newspaper which would be interested in this to see what responses there may be.
Will let you know how I get on.
regards

Hi Pat
I've managed to get some more info on the Gargan side of the family.
Michael Gargan b. 1861 (Mary's son) moved to 23 Duleek Street after his mother died in 1905 (b 1821). He's in the 1911 census and died in 1913.
Mary's husband was a Michael Gargan (b. 1820 Nobber - d. 1891 Drogheda). He had a sister Biddy born in Nobber but I can't find any more info so far. Their parents appear to be Ned (Edward) Gargan and Mary Lynch. Married 11 Feb 1811 in Nobber.
Looks like its pointing back to Nobber !
I'll keep on digging.
cheers
John
