I hope this works as there does not seem to be a forum for what I am asking about. DNA testing and a document found in the US lead me to believe that my ancestors are probably from the Monaghan area. I really need help in figuring out any info about them, and the area on the map I am attaching to see if i can find out the name of the area and possible Parishes I should be checking. I do not know their religion so need to check all parishes for the area. My 3 x GGF, THomas Mulhern B abt 1818 is reportedly from Monaghan as was his wife Margaret McKinny B abt 1824. It appears they may have married after coming to the US, but that issue is a bit cloudy as it looks like they may have had a child before their marriage date--OR Margaret put her maiden name on the Census where I found them. He may have come to US 29 Sep 1847 and she may have come to US 24 July 1845. I have not been able to 100% determine is these immigration documents are them however. Their children were Bridget (1846) Thomas (1850) John (1851) and Margaret 1858. All children appear to be born in New York City area in the US. I give this info in case someone out there has these people in their lines.
The area on a map provided through DNA testing indicates an area south of the city of Monaghan, so I would like help identifying exactly what this area is called and what parishes I may have to search in. I would also like to know if there is a history of these names in the area if possible. The balloon on the map indicates the precise region, but I have not been able to find a map to further identify where this is.
I did find one website once that indicated Mulhern may be from this region.
If anyone can give me any help with this, from identifying name of area and parish to specific information about this family I would sincerely appreciate it.
