I will be ecstatic if anyone knows or is connected with my GGrandfather, Arthur Carragher, born 1843 in Ireland. The Valuation of Tenements for the Parish of Clontibret in 1861 documents Arthur and his wife, Mary Carraher living in Cremartin in a house, office, and land. The Lessor is James Hamilton. In 1870 Arthur was living in CASTLEBLAYNEY (Slater's Royal National Commercial Directory of Ireland) where most of his children were born. His one daughter, ALICE born 1879, is my Grandmother. She and her parents and siblings immigrated to Lambton, Ontario, Canada in 1888.  ~ Thanks, Barbara Rogelstad

  • My Great great grandparents were Jame Carragher and Catherine McArdle of Corratanty.  There children were Thomas (b. 1862 - d. 1947 in Philadelphia), Patrick (b. 1863), Mary (b. 1864), Peter (b. 1866 - d. 1930 in Philadelphia), Elizabeth (b. 1869 - d. 1909 in Philadelphia), Sarah (b. 1871) and Annie (b. 1875 - d. 1915 in Corratanty(?)).

Peter was my great great grandfather.  He seems to have had a very close relationship with his older brother, Thomas.  Annie married James Coogan.  James, I believe, inherited what land James Carragher had and farmed it.  Annie passed away in 1915 and James Coogan in 1965.

  • My great, great grandmother was Rosa Caragher born about 1813. In 1837 she married a Mic O'Heir. They had 2 children Michael born in 1843 andCcatherine born in 1847. She came to the United State in around 1872 to join her kids Michael and Catherine who were already here. I am looking for relatives of Rosa and Michael.  Thanks, Eileen

  • Hi

My maternal family use the derivative name Carahar/ Caraher and are based in Cheshire. England. My GG grandfather was Arthur Carahar born in 1860 Sandbach. Cheshire. England. His father (my GGG grandfather) was Patrick Peter Carahar born c 1822 in Monaghan. S Ireland, probably Muckno. Castleblaney. I have been told that the family of Patrick Peter Carahar probably left S Ireland during the potato famine c1845 and I do know that he was in Sandbach. Cheshire. England in 1860. I believe that the Carahar family of Castleblayney were originally from the Gaelic Scottish Highlands and migrated to Ireland as a result of the Highland Clearences sometime between 1750-1820........
