Searching for my GGGrandfather Patrick Brennan, farmer, d. between Sept 1883-May 1899. (RC).
Wife's name unknown. My GGrandfather was Edward Joseph Brennan, b. about 1846. He left his native county of Monaghan about 1872 for London. First marriage to Charlotte Lovegrove 1874 London. Second marriage to Mary Ann Spray in 1899, Brighton,England. Edward d. Jan 1912 he was a master builder.
Edward may have had 5 siblings Patrick Jr(?), Michael, Rose, Kate, and Mary Ann.
Mary Ann left for England about 1881-82, married David O'Keefe in 1883.
Clontibret has the highest concentration of Patrick Brennan's in the county of Monaghan. A good place to start.
Keeping my fingers crossed.

Hi,
Thank you very much for your message, I hope that someone recognises this Brennan family and helps you to further your research.
In the meantime, have you tried looking at church records in Clontibret to see if you can find a birth record for Edward? Catholic church records in the parish start in 1843 so if he was born there in 1846 there should hopefully be a record of it:
Most Catholic records are still held locally so it may be an idea to write to the local parish priest for possible assistance.Alternatively, as you can see from the link above Monaghan Genealogy have copies available. Please note however that a fee may apply for their services. Here is their email: theomcmahon@eircom.net
Have you tried looking in the census record of 1901/1911 to see if you can find any of the siblings that may have remained? I did a quick search and found an entry for a Michael and Mary Brennan, brother and sister, ages 39 and 40 respectively living in Clontibret 1901:

I wonder if these are Edward?s siblings?
