I am searching for my g.g.grandfather Peter Marron born around 1830, married to Mary Hughes .  Their son James Marron was my great grandfather and he was baptised in Donaghmoyne.  I have been searching for a very long time but cannot find anything on Peter in any records.

Thank you

  • Unfortunately it looks like the records for the RC parish of Donaghmoyne only go back to abt 1840 on RootsIreland, and to 1860s on the NLI films, so if your Peter and Mary were from that parish then it's doesn't look like there will be records for them.

What date do you have for the baptism of James, does it include a townland name ?

  • There are two Peter Marrons shown in Donaghmoyne Civil Parish on Griffith's Valuation, which is dated 1861 for this area. One at Toome townland with just over 5 acres, the other at Aghnacloghan townland with about 14 acres, likely two different people as they are both listed with houses and land.

The Tithe records for the parish date from 1823, and the townland of Aghnacloghan is listed as 'Ahecloughan'. There is a Peter Marrin listed for for this townland, and also an Owen Marrin. Given the timeline for your Marron family these could be previous generation of the family, maybe father and uncle of your Peter. No sign of Toome townland that I can see in the Tithe listings.
