On Catherine's marriage certificate, when she married Joseph Goodsall her surname was Muckin. It has then been shown on certificates with various spellings. Muckian, McCann, McKiam, Muckin. I have not been able to find out anything on my Great Grandmother in 30 years but looking forward to walking around Carrickmacross where she said she was born. Will be there on 1st June 2013. Would be a miracle if anyone knows anything. Her father was Bryan and mother Elizabeth Martin. She could not read or write.

  • Sorry Marie, I am unable to help you, however Monaghan use another site for similar purposes to this, it is countymonaghanfund.com they should be able to help you.

You say you have searched for 30 years, when was she born & what have you looked up?

When you come to Carrickmacross, if you have made no further headway in your search, I would be delighted to tell you where the graveyards are et.

  • My GG Grandmother Mary Ann McCann was Catherine's sister. Mary Ann and her brothers James and Patrick came to Australia in 1863 aboard the "Golden Dream", listed as Muckain in the shipping records. Catherine may have arrived with another sister Bridget. Mary Ann's parents have been listed as Bryan McCann and Elizabeth McGrouther. At the time of Mary Ann's death in 1919, there was another sister still living in Carrickmacross.

    Linda.
