Hello,
I am seeking birth or baptism record for Samuel Wiggins born 1747 or 1748, son of James Wiggins, of Mullinegore (Mullanagore), Monaghan County, Ireland. The father James Wiggins was baptise on January 23, 1722, in Colones, Monaghan County, Ireland along with Willm Wiggins at the same time, date and place. I believe they may have been twins.

Hi,
Mullanagore is 225 Acres County Monaghan, Cremorne Barony, Aghamullen Parish, Cootehill Poor Law Union, Ulster Province
http://www.ancestryireland.com/database.php?filename=map_monaghan
There is also a Mullinagore about 850 meters from Mallanagore. Google Maps will pull this up. Something very interesting on your name Wiggins, The Griffiths Valuation 1847-1864 shows that the name Wiggins is still in Aghamullen Parish. I would think that because there is 100 years between your Wiggins fellows and the John Wiggins showing in 1847-1864, that the odds would be high on some sort of relation. The Wiggins name also shows through 1911 census for Mullanagore, so was very long lived in that area despite those that emigrated.
The religion followed during the time period will determine your next step in your search. http://ahd.exis.net/monaghan/churchregisters.htm show different parishes with some info for you areas, however do not take it at word that all data is lost.
Also found was http://thesilverbowl.com/documents/Breakey_Memoirs/Breakey%20Manuscript%20BOOK%20ONE%20COMPLETE.htm if you use the search function for the page, a Wiggins associated with the area in 1798 is documented in there, although not by first name, as is a Father Jack Wiggins.
Hope this helps

I can't wait to start looking at the links, thank you so much for your help. The family is Presbyterian and I am glad that we have a last name of Wiggins, as it is easy to identify. Thank you again, I have to get to work on these links. Send more of if you hit on them.
Regards,
Nancy

The Wiggins family in Mullangore in the 1901 census is Church of Ireland, not Presbyterian, as indeed are the vast majority of all the Wiggins in Co Monaghan. (It?s essentially an English rather than Scottish name so that?s not too surprising). So I would keep an open mind about your ancestors? denomination (at least when they lived in Ireland). In some ways you will do better if they prove to be Church of Ireland rather than Presbyterian as there are no Presbyterian records for the 1700s for that area, whereas the Church of Ireland has records which go back to 1682. Since you know of 2 baptisms in Clones in the 1700s, I suspect they probably came from the Church of Ireland?s records. The Church of Ireland also keeps burial records whereas Presbyterian churches do not, so that may prove helpful too.
A copy of the COI parish records is held in PRONI, Belfast. Another is held at the RCB library in Dublin.
