Looking for more information on John Mcglade born in 1810 and Mary unknown last name born in 1810.

Their son Patrick Francis McGlade is my 2nd great grandfather.  He was born 17 Feb 1830 in county Monaghan Ireland.  He came to America in 1859.   After coming to American he worked as a stonemason and lived in Iowa.

In 1851 he lived with his cousin Mary and Charls Dillin in Rutherglen, Lanarkshire Scotland.

His siblings are John 1835-1910,  Isabella 1838-1921, Michael Francis 1838- 1961, Catherine 1840-1941,                         Mary 1840, and Bridget 1843.

My sources  1850 U.S. Federal Census, 1880 U.S. Federal Census, 1900 U.S. Federal Census, Ireland Census 1901,  1851 Scotland Census.

  • You would expect Mary & Charles Dillin to come from somewhere close to the McGlade family. Do you know where Mary & Charles married? If it was in Co. Monaghan then that could narrow your search. If Mary and Charles had any children born in the years 1855 or 1861 onwards, then the birth certificate should record where they married. (You can view Scottish birth certificates on the Scotlandspeople site).

  • Sandra:

The 1861 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Co. Monaghan shows only one McGlade--John McGlade who lived in Glaslough town in Donagh civil parish. Possibly this is your 1810 John or even the 1835 John.
