Looking for relatives of Thomas Fitzgerald who married Eliza Purdue in 1864, Church of Ireland, St George Dublin.  I think they lived in Roscommon.  Thomas was the Saleen Station Master.  Thomas lived in Phibsboro Rd, Dublin and Eliza lived in Knockroughy, Parish of St Peter.

Eliza's father is given as Thomas Purdue, farmer. Thomas's father is given as Francis Fitzgerald, farmer.

I am trying to trace further back.  Francis Fitzgerald's signature appears on various documents I have.  He could be the Francis Fitzgerald who married Lucinda Margaret Simpson in 1877.  His address is given as Cloncorn House, Clones, Monaghan.

I can get no further.  Any help appreciated.

  • Hi Suzanne,

I found as you did the marriage record for Thomas Fitzgerald and Eliza Perdue in 1864.  Her address includes the word Gaily.  When I looked at the Griffith valuation (www.askaboutireland.ie) and searched for her father Thomas Perdue I found a number of records of him leasing land in Co. Roscommon.  This address in Roscommon also includes the word Gaily (Galey).  I assume that this is her father.

I searched for a baptismal record for Eliza who I am guessing was born approx 1840 - 1845 but could not find any record at all.  I looked at both sites www.irishgenealogy.ie and www.rootsireland.ie

The rootsireland site would carry the records for Roscommon, but when I looked at the source list for that county, the Church of Ireland records begin quite late and it's possible that there won't be a record for her.  However as not everything is online, I would suggest that you contact the church of Ireland in Co Roscommon and see if they have anything in their records.

    Kind regards,

    anne
