Recently through DNA I have come to think that my Thomas McPhillips and his wife, Margaret Sullivancame from Tedavnet parish in Monaghan. They were somehow blood relations to either; Deery, Murray, McKenna, or Sherry surnames as that is where the DNA has put the connection. (Those DNA surnames came from Tedavnet.)
Thomas Sr. was born about 1800. Thomas Jr. was b. 6 Jan 1834. Two daughters were Sarah, b. abt. 1835 andCatherine, b. 15 Feb 1837.
Since I don't know they arrival date I'm not sure if they came through Canada or from New York, USA toWisconsin, USA. Later, they moved to Nebraska, USA. Margaret died at sea on the trip to America
. Looking at the townlands where the DNA surnames lived and those same townlands that McPHILLIPS lived in according to Griffth's and the New Graveyard of Tedavnet, the possiblity seems evident. But which Townland that Thomas & his wife and children lived in and left is a mystery. Any help with my Great grandparents story would be appreciated. Dona

hi,
There are a few Ancestry records for Thomas McPhillips that would show the Townland name.
Residence: township, city, Monaghan, Ireland
http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin/sse.dll?gl=36&rank=1&new=1&so=3&MS…
If you do not have membership you can probably look at the record in your local library.

hi,
If this was my family I would make a few assumptions based on what you know to be fact, and then work on trying to prove/disprove the theory.
Thomas Snr. was born c.1800, so I would assume he was still alive in 1858.
There was only 1 Thomas around in 1858 and he farmed at the Townland of SHESKIN, where he had 10 acres of land.
There is also a Michael McPHILLIPS b.1820 who farmed 11 acres on the same Townland.
He is probably the eldest son, so got the family farm.
Michael is still alive in the 1901 Census aged 80y, and there is only 1 McPHILLIPS family - so he probably inherited the Fathers farm.

If you go to your local LDS Research centre they have the Griffiths Revaluation records which would show the change of ownership/tenancy.
