I am searching for any information for Samuel McKenna. We understand he was from Tydavnet, born 1795. He had one son Patrick McKenna, bornTydavnet 1826, a daughter Catherine McKenna an a second daughter, name unknown. Son Patrick and the two daughters emigrated to Prince Edward Island aprox 1839. I have been given the family tree going back to Samuel. I have added some information but having difficulty finding anything for Samuel. Any assistance or suggestions would be much appreciated. Your dates are very early for parish records, do you know what denomination were your McKenna family ?

Hi Shane. Samuel would have been Roman Catholic. Thanks,

Records of baptisms for the RC parish of Tydavnet. go back to 1835, marriages a little earlier to abt 1825, so possibly not quite far enough to give any vital records for your McKenna family. I had a quick look of the index on RootsIreland (pay-website) for possible baptisms in case any younger children might be included, but nothing promising that I could find on a search for McKenna baptisms between 1830 and 1840., with father's name Sam or Samuel..
The Tithe records for the equivalent civil parish which is Tedavnet, are shown 1826, and here are some Kenna/McKenna/McKanna entries that could be related - here's a link (National Archives) to these, as they could be relations, although bear in mind the surname was very common in that part of Ireland. .

Ron,
I am looking for information on Samuel as well, as he is my wifes 3X Great Grandfather.
His daughter Catherine married John Condon and settled in PEI.
I also have many relatives on the island as well, and with the common name residing on PEI at the same time I am quite curious.
Would love to share info as I have quite a bit done but nothing prior to Samuel unfortunately....but still working on it.

Hi Dan. If we have the same Samuel McKenna this would be great and I can certainly share what information I have. I have very little on Catherine but I have information on Patrick, her brother, down to my Father on PEI. I will send this directly to you in the next few days. The only thing I have on Catherine was that she was born in Ireland (I have a year of 1821), emigrated to PEI aprox 1839 (with brother Patrick, a sister (name unknown), a cousin 'long Pat' and two Greenan boys) I have that she died in 1890 on PEI. Does this sound like your Samuel and Catherine? Samuel was not a very common name but the person who did the research was a real reasearcher/scholar so I feel good about it. Where did you come up with Samuel? Ron

Hi Dan. Thank you for this information. I had none of this beginning with Catherine's spouse and onward. Following is the outline of what I have for Catherines' brother Patrick. The majority of this comes from Sister Olga McKenna. I have just located her book 'A Geneological Odessy- A Search for the Descendants of Samuel McKenna' in an archives here and hope to be able to view this in the next few weeks.
Samuel (as you know) had son Patrick, daughter Catherine and daughter 'unknown'
Patrick married Margaret McCarvill, in Ireland before 1841 and had daughter Ann McKenna.
Patrick emigrated to Canada aprox 1839 with bride Margaret McCarvelle, 2 sisters, cousin 'Long Patt' McKenna, Patrick Greenan and James Greenan
Patrick married Sara Conway Jan.16,1846 in Kinkora PEI. Children of Patrick and Sara are: James Mckenna B. Aug 26,1847, Newton PEI, D. Jan 23.1909.
Thomas McKenna B.Sept 22,1848. D. Aug 15,1891, Newton, PEI
John Mckenna. B.April 4,1851, Newton PEI
Peter McKenna. B. Jan 1854, Newton, PEI
Michael Francis McKenna, B.Jan 12,1856, Lot 26, Newton PEI. D. Jan.1,1941
Mary Ellen McKenna. B. Dec. 25,1859, D.Jan 2,1942
James McKenna (B.Aug 26, 1847) had two wives

They had childred: John Michael (Feb 5,1881), Patrick Sarsfield McKenna (April 26,1882), James Emmett McKenna (June 19,1883),Mary Anne McKenna (Dec 1884), Peter Albert (Ob) McKenna (my Grandfather)(Mar 23,1886) Alfred Mckenna, Mark McKenna,Francis Eugene Mckenna

I believe I have the unknown daughter of Samuel McKenna in my family tree. her name is Elizabeth McKenna born circa 1816in monaghan died 1871 in fort augustus pei. there is a grainy picture of the tombstone on billion graves.com website. she married john trainor (born 1816 rarutagh donagh monaghan died nov 14 1883 pei. rarutagh and tydavnet are only 3 miles apart. I am still researching Elizabeth for marriage and death records. to positively confirm the heritage. I have a website on my heritage.com with many mckennas listed. I must update two records (for Thomas Alfred and Patrick sarsfield because I have their partners listed with their parents and grandparents. so I can't delete the two brothers without first deleting their parents with all of their ancestors. before putting the brothers under the correct mother (Kelly). my email is jamm140@comcast.net, if you want to compare notes. best wishes. mark m

Thanks for the help, this is becoming very interesting for me.
I have an a copy of the transcript for St Patrick's cemetery in Fort Augustus. There is an entry for Elizabeth Trainor as follows:"Trainor: Elizabeth, w of John Trainor,d: July 17, 1871, age 55. A native of the parish of Tynolland County Monaghan, Ireland"
The entry does not mention her maiden name, and their are several other "McKenna" families that settled in Fort Augustus
If she is the missing daughter, her sister Catherine is my wife's 2X Great grandmother. thus Samuel their father is my wife's 3X great,
Now one of the Mckenna families that settled in Ft Augustus was James McKenna & Mary Trainor, they are both buried at St Patrick's in Ft Augustus. These are my 2X great grandparents.
Mary Trainor was born about 1822 in Ireland, and possibly a sibling of John Trainor.
This would tie my family together with my wife's family.
I have the site with the two family trees listed, if you would like to take a look at them.
I would appreciate it if you could share any information that you have that may confirm this.Dan McKenna NH
