Hello!
I have a very old letter dated December 1901 from Peter Donohoe in Tara, to his sister (my Great Grandmother) Annie Donohoe Burke living in Laurens, Iowa, regarding the death of their father, Patrick Donohoe. The letter says that Patrick's funeral was "the Largest was seen in Durrow for A long time," and that there was "a great lot from Geashil and Cloghan" at the funeral. I will be visiting Ireland in October, and would be so happy to meet someone who might have known my relatives-- or who might be a relative of mine! Patrick's son, Peter, is listed in the 1911 Irish Census as living in Kings County; Constabulary District of Tullamore; Sub-District of Clara; District Electoral Division of Silverbrook; Townland of Tara' Barony of BallyCowan; and Parrish of Durrow.
I am interested in seeing where my Great Grandmother lived-- and to know more about the family that she married into. Her husband-- my Great Grandfather, Thomas Francis Burke-- was a childhood friend of Annie's. His obituary states that he was born at Tullamore on 16 March 1865. At the time of his death-- 30 Septmeber 1932 in Laurens, Iowa (United States), he left behind "two sisters in Ireland." This is all the information I have regarding my Great Grandfather. My mother and her familylived with him for four years during her childhood. I would very much like to know more about this man that my mother loved so much.
Thank-you so much for your help and for this website! Marti Benson Smith
