Hi everyone,
I am researching my Duigan family. My g g grandmother Anne Duigan was born in 1832 (I think) and was married to Owen Grimes. She died in 1905. Her father was Daniel Duigan. I previously had a list of Duigan births in the area but couldn't match up my Anne. She was married in the district of Frankford. I would like to find her baptism record then maybe I could find her siblings.
Many thanks.
Janice.

Hello Janice,
apologies for the delay in replying to your message.
You have a lot of good information so it should be possible to find Anne's baptism record.
You say she was born circa 1832 and died in 1905 so she should be in the 1901 census - the only older Ann Grimes I could find lived in house 2 in Castledown (Heathstown, Westmeath).
I can find a Daniel Duigan in the Griffith's Valuation living in Derrylahan, Killoughy, Offaly so this is possibly her birthplace.
My suggestion would be that you contact the Offaly genealogy centre as they offer a first search for just ?10 and your information is very specific.
The Irish Midlands (Counties Laois & Offaly) Ancestry service can be contacted here - please let them know we sent you!:<?xml:namespace prefix = o />

Let's hope something turns up

Thanks for that Dolores.
Anne Grimes is in the 1901 census as Annie Grines the surname being wrongly spelt.
I did have a list of Duigan births a while back but my Anne wasn't on there which made me think perhaps they were not a complete list. I do believe the Daniel Duigan you mentioned is her father. I did have some research done by Irish Midlands Ancestry but her birth didn't show up on the list of births for the area she came from.

Hi Janice
Just wondering where you got to with your search. I’m currently doing my family tree and Anne Duigan has come up as my great great great grandmother as well!
Best

Hi Kate,
Anne's father was Daniel Duigan. He married Bridget Kinan or Keenan in 1822. I was wondering what names you have in your family tree? I have also taken the Ancestry DNA test which has been very interesting!
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi Janice - great to hear from you!
I’ve just started the family tree in the last week or so but have worked back to discover that Anne Duigan and Owen Grimes were my great great great grandparents . They had a daughter, Mary Anne Grimes, who had a son, Patrick Lyons with her husband (also called Patrick Lyons) and he then had my grandfather, John Maguire Lyons. The Grimes family line seems to go back much further, back to Thomas Grimes in 1737!
Is your relationship through Mary Anne Grimes or another of Anne Duigan’s children? It’s so fascinating! I’m definitely going to do the Ancestry DNA test, were you able to connect with any relatives?
Best,
Kate

Hi Kate,
The Patrick Lyons who was the father of John Maguire Lyons was my granddad Michael's brother. I believe Patrick came over to London the same as my grandfather and his family but I don't think they stayed in touch. The Patrick Lyons who was married to Mary Anne Grimes was a head constable in the Irish police. If you are taking the DNA test I will see you on the site. Let me know your username and I will give you access to my family tree and you will be able to see some photo's as well. I take it you are in England? We have some Lyons family in Dublin. The Lyons family originally came from Duagh in Kerry. That's where the head constable Patrick was born. He met his wife when he was stationed in Tullamore Offaly.
Nice to meet you.
