MOLLOYS from across the globe are once again planning to descend on Tullamore, County Offaly on August 25th, 26th and 27th for the fifth triennial O'Molloy Clan Gathering. People from as far afield as China, Australia and North America are once again expected to team up with Molloys from nearer home for the rally.
Events in the weekend schedule include an early evening meeting at the Molloy Esker Hill Golf Club for food and drink and to meet old and new O'Molloy Clan members. Presentations will be made on the history of the Molloys in Offaly and DNA genealogy. Saturday morning a tour bus will take the Molloys to the new Tullamore Dew distillery (Michael Molloy was the founder of a distillery that would eventually become Tullamore Dew) and then the group will visit Clonmacnoise, have lunch, and depending on time availability visit the historical O'Molloy sites of Durrow and Rahan.
Saturday night will consist of dinner and entertainment at the infamous Charleville Castle (pictured below). Charleville Castle is a Gothic-style castle bordering the town of Tullamore, near the River Clodiagh. Charleville Castle is considered one of the finest castles of its type in all of Ireland. Sunday options include visiting a "mass rock" and playing golf at Esker Hills Golf Club.
