Hi,        Further to my most recent posting relative to Bridget Farrell and Charles Mulvey's marriage yet unfound I would like to include that Bridget's father, George Farrell's death has never been found as well.

He died c. 1870 in the Carrick-on-Shannon area of Roscommon.  His civil death record goes missing.  I don't know what to say about this but either the record is missing (lost) totally or these folks just didn't comply with the authorities.  He was born c, 1810 in probably Finiskel, Kiltoghert, Leitrim and migrated to  Roscommon in the early to mid 1830's.  He married Bridget Higgins at Killukin in 1838.  I have the marriage record from the church at Croghan. He lived in the townland of Lisadaly...all of his 5 children were born there.  Martin, 1839, Edward, 1841, Bridget, 1844 (poss went to Tamworth, Staffs) Patrick, b. 1846 and Winifred, my great grandmother, was b. 1853.  There is an odd gap in births between Pat and Winnie.  Was George absent, was his wife told to "give it a rest" or is there another child whose baptism record is missing???  All very vaild questions. George shows up in 1869/70 as purchasing a dog license in the area.  So I know that he survived at least till then.  The mystery is....where is the civil record of his death?  Was he buried at Ardcarne Cemetery or Killukin Cemetery?  Burial records are indeed scant...headstones are either non-existant or uncataloged due to wear and abandonment.  No one seems to know what happened to the burial registers for both.  Are the LDS records complete for the area?  Are the IFHF records complete for the area??

Any help or direction would be much appreciated.

  • Hi Greg

    I notice you've tried IFHF & LDS.

Have you tried geni.nidirect.gov.uk, findmypastireland or PRONI?

  • Hello,

I checked FMPIreland and nothing appears for George for the timeframe of interest 1865-1875.   Nothing on PRONI as it is a 6 counties website.  Thanks anyway for the direction.

  • Thanks, Col.     Wouldn't NI direct only have records for the 6 counties?  Northern Ireland wasn't created until the early 1920's.  Although born in Leitrim, lived in Roscommon.
