Hello!
This will be brief. I am already familiar with Drumrat parish, having done a lot of research in the area for the past 17 years. But always willing to learn more - and probably more importantly for some, to share what I know. I trace back to John Egan [born @ 1837 & died 1910] and Mary DONOHUE\DONAGHER\Donoher [the spelling varies] [b. @ 1842 & died 1917] of Cletty Townland, next to Drumnagranshy Townland, Keash, outside of Ballymote, Toomour Parish, Co. Sligo. My great great grandparents on my mother's side. From evidence I've gathered I suspect this branch of Egan's have been in these 2 townlands since at least 1807. John and Mary's daughter Jennie Egan was my great grandmother and went to the States @ 1881 to New York City, where she met a Swede from Lund and then moved to Jersey City New Jersey soon after. Her sister Maria and brother John Joseph followed. All lived out the rest of their lives in Jersey City. Maria had no children while John and his wife had two. I know the family trees of Jennie's elder brother Roger Egan and youngest sister Catherine Egan Wilson. Other siblings {Beesie, James, Henry & Bridget] had no issue but I suspect one brother, Henry, may have gone to the States too, but he is not yet 'found'.
I have a small house in Culfadda in Drumrat Parish and get to it when I can. I've been lucky to get to know a lot of other folks too. I applaud the folks who have put this project together and look forward to assiting where I can with information or suggestions. I'll have more time in the very near future to do more of this genealogical work. I have other ancestral roots in Ireland - Athlone being one - that I am eager to explore.Take care and the best of luck to all. Feel free to contact me.
