Hello.
I'm trying to confirm information about the following men from Scart, Ballylooby:
(1) Thomas Richardson born Scart 1866 to Thomas Richardson and Mary Dillon.
Did he come to America? Did he settle in Boston, MA? Did he marry Annie Daly? (Thomas Richardson is my grandfather's uncle. My grandfather is John (Jack) Richardson who was born in Scart 1908 to Denis Richardson and Mary Clohessy. He came to America in 1927. I know he visited an uncle in Jamiaca Plain, Boston, MA but I don't know when and I don't know the uncle's name. The Thomas noted above seems to fit based on MA census records and MA marriage records, and because I think I have accounted for all other male siblings of my grandfather's parents, and because I can't find this Thomas in Irish records after his birth).
(2) Thomas Richardson, grandfather of the Thomas noted in number 1 above.
I believe he was born ca 1805 but I haven't found birth or death records. Ballylooby parish registers show that he had 5 children with Honora Dunn between 1833 and 1843 - Mary, Thomas, James, Denis and Margaret. I haven't found a marriage record for Thomas Richardson and Honora Dunn in the parish registers from Ballylooby, Clogheen, or Templetenny. To complicate matters, the Ballylooby parish register shows a Thomas Richardson who had a child with Catherine Kelly (Catherine, bapt 12/13/1829 Ballylooby - this is only child listed for them in Ballylooby, Clogheen, or Templetenny). I haven't found a marriage record for Thomas Richardson and Catherine Kelly. Were there two separate men named Thomas Richardson in Scart, each with a different wife? Or, did Thomas Richardson marry twice, first to Catherine Kelly and then to Honora Dunn? Or were they not married which is why I can't find marriage records? (Although I assume if this were the case, the children would have been noted as illegitimate in the parish records)
Finally, just a general question....Are there any sources for births, marriages and deaths before the parish registers? I'd love to trace my roots further back than the 1800s. I'd love to know how long these families were in Tipperary and how they came to be there.
Thanks so much for your time and your help,
Liz

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
We have a volunteer who helps out with Ballylooby messages. I will send him and e-mail to alert him about your message. To answer your general question, there are no sources for BMDs prior to the Ballylooby register which starts in 1828.

Attached FilesRichardson report April 29 2016.pdf (669.48 KB)
Hi Tom
Thank you for the documents. You are very kind. My grandfather was indeed born in Scartnaglorane. I've been researching the Richardson family in Ballylooby for many years and have consulted parish registers, civil records, census records, wills, Tithe Applotment Books, Griffith's Valuation and Hearth Money Records. I've filled out a lot of branches on the family tree.
I may not be able to learn more about Thomas Richardson and Honora Dunn because records from the time of their birth and marriage aren't available. There's another person for whom I'd like to fill out a branch on the tree - Margaret (Maggie) Richardson, born August 22 1906, sister to my grandfather Jack Richardson. She married Denis Condon and moved to England but after that I've lost track.
My great grandfather Denis Richardson, born December 19, 1868, raised greyhounds. I assume they were for racing. Do you know anything about greyhound racing in the Ballylooby/Caher area?
I've attached a Richardson report that shows the brances I've been able to fill in - my line is 1, 2, 6,10,19.
Thank you again, very much, for your help.
