Hi Tom thanks for the reply with attachments these details are all correct they were my Grandparents my Father is Sean Farrell and came from a large Family. I am very keen to know all about my Family's history and really want to trace my family descendants back from living today and as far back as possible if you can help in any way I would be really grateful. Hi Tom thanks I really appreciate your help my Dad said that the family had 21 children in total. The family was well known as fishermen in the Town especially Tommy who fished along the weir.

 

Thanks Tom our Family are great sports people both fishing and football including my son Daniel who is a semi professional footballer playing in goal for Brackley Town FC in the Conference North I also played Gaelic Football for O'Rahillys in Corby Northants so to find out more of the Family in sports would be really good

I have been updating my Family tree and trying to piece together dates and relationships a little bit complicated at this end as really need to hear as much information first hand.

Just looking through this because my GG Grandfather ( David Burke (b abt 1850  from 1911 Census) - Cranna) married Mary Farrell (b abt 1850 1911 Census) - Burges Mansion?) in Ardfinnan Parish) and I am interested in sport and knew my Grandfather -on the Gleeson side was too.

Opened up the image of the Cahir Unknowns and there he was (1928 FAI finals) and there he was on the end - MARTIN GLEESON as bold as brass.

Do you know where Bananaheda was in Cranna, Tubbrid?   Is it a misspelling or is it a recognised place, as I have not located it after a few weeks of searching.  

Some info for you - My uncle Tom Burke (Duneske House and Hogan Sq as a young man) told me that the family lived close to the Kilcommon crossroads when his grandfather Alexander was a young man - before he died in 1916 during the 1st WW (on the monument in the square).   A family story is that Alexander spent time in the British Army in the 1890s and was discharged and married Bridget Quinn.  On the outbreak of war he reenlisted but under his mother's name of Farrell because his first period of service ended with his discharge for a somewhat clouded record after 12 years or so of good conduct.  What bravery to reenlist under a false name when he could have applied under his own and been refused and excused war service.  I went across last February and put a wreath on his Commonwealth War Grave, in Ballydrinnan Old Cemetery, to mark 100 yrs since his death. I found reference to this enlistment as Farrell in his Military records.

Fantastic information - The marriage record from Ardfinnan is  something I have never seen. (could you tell me where was this available digitally from?)

Alexander Burke (b1874 d 1916) - The enlisted as Farrell refernce came from one of his army papers (I found in UK National Archives, Kew, London) once he was admitted to Queenstown Military Hospital where he died in February 1916.  So he was identified as Burke (ilo his re-enlistment name of Farrell) by the army.

I will do some research into whether Michael and Alexander were brothers - Do you know where the information about the Cahir WW1 Memorial is available?  When I was in Cahir in February this year I met a guy who was doing research into the soldiers on the memorial and passed on what I knew about Alexander at that time.

I think I'm in the right place. My name is Keith and my grandmother was Bridget Fournier (Farrell). She was one of 17 siblings and moved to the US is 1958. She has recently passed away and wanted me to bring her home. I hope to be over in June and would love to know the area she grew up in better. I was over there in July for my honeymoon but didn't have too much time to explore. If anyone can help me It would be greatly appreciated.

iHi Tom I am looking for some information on Ellen Farrell born 1856 and lived to the age of 93, can you see if you could find out what living Ellen did please I have seen a picture of her and she looks dressed like a housekeeper also who she worked for? I am your first cousin Kevin. Son of Joseph (Dody). My surname is O'Farrell. I don't know how these things happen, but that is how it is. I have been to your fathers place many years ago. I am sorry to hear he has been unwell.

I have found a copy of an insert into a letter from Liam to Dody many years ago with birthday details and miscarriages. I will post this when I hear from you.

I know Tommy O'Farrell very well. I have been to Cahir many when I was young.

Hi Peter. I have posted the note I mentioned. I have blanked the exact birth dates as I am a bt neurotic about people misusing such info. If I can find a way to get the unedited version to you that would be good.

I will also upload all the info I have found from the 1911 census. You may know I part own a house in Abbey Street. This was bought by my parents who discovered after the purchase that it was previously owned by our great grandmother Ellen Farrell, It seems to be number 26 on the census. Nowadays there does not seem to be any use of the house numbers in the street. She kept pigs in the back yard as was common. It was also registered as a piggery and so I have included the farm registry. A good few years ago just as I was leaving to catch the ferry I fell into conversation with a guy from two doors down the hill. I wish I could remember his name. He said he remembered the grandmother and her pigs. How about that.

My sister Dawn took the attched photo quite recently. It is from the graveyard at the side of St Mary's in Cahir. http://stmaryscahir.webs.com/

If you look at the church website the graveyard is on a path to the right of the church. The main public entrance is just behind the car showing it's rear lights.

The gravestone shows our grandfather William and grandmother Margaret, and our great grandmother Ellen. Also our aunt Pauline and Uncle Tom.

Anutie Pauline was married to Charlie Rae. We would often visit them in Dunstable. Their children are Geraldine David and Allie (Alan I guess). My Ma told me Uncle Charlie died so that would be years ago.

Our uncle Tommy always lived at the house at 14 Carrigeen which is where I spent some time too when very young. He lived alone. Before that our Grandparents lived there. This was the main Farrell abode for as long as I remember.

I remember going to the church with grandfather a few times when very young. I have one memory of arriving and discovering all the seats taken on the ground level. At that time there was a gallery immediatly to the left of the entrance I mentioned above. The gallery is now gone. We had to use the gallery which involved a steep flight of stairs. Grandad was not at all keen on the stairs as he had an old wound in one knee. This happened during WW1. I believe this was at the Somme. I have been told that he was at Gallipoli and the Somme.  I discovered when visiting in my teens that he could speak French.

I am not much of a keeper of photos. I will have to get in touch with my sisters Vivian and Dawn to see what they can find for me.

I should also mention my brother Brian for your family tree.

Good evening guys. My name is Margaret Nowlan, my mother was Theresa Elizabeth O' Farrell formerly of Cahir (married Frederick Thomas Megee).. My grandparents were William O' Farrell and Margaret O' Farrell of Cahir.. My uncle was Tommy, my aunt was Mary who was a nun.. I have a feeling there was a Pauline and a Sean... I cannot remember my mothers other siblings names and I cannot ask her as she passed away in 1977, my father passed away in 1976..i do have it in my head there were 18+ children... If anyone has a list of other children of William and Margaret would it be possible to let me know please.. We are in the process of doing our family tree and nothing is coming up about my mothers siblings. Hope everyone is well.
