I found this death record in South Australian genealogy website - Richard QuinlanBirth Year:abt 1814Age:66Death Date:20 Jun 1880Death Place:Rossmore Hd Of MileResidence Place:Rossmore Stanley FlatRegistration Place:Clare, South Australia - seems like it might be your guy. Many other records for him there ie his children. Could he be from Rossmore Ire and move to Rossmore SA? My ggg grandmother was Margaret Quinlan born 1832 Tipperary, in SA by 1855, possibly a relative. Cheers, Jess.

Thank you for your reply, this is my great great grandfather.  I am trying to locate his family in Ireland. 

Do you know where Margaret was born?  That would be a great help as there are many many Margaret Quinlans and Quinlans in general.  I have been to Ireland twice and been to Rossmore with no luck.  No Quinlans live there anymore and no one seems to know anything :(

Hi Deb, nice to hear from you! I am having similar problems with Margaret. I have bought her marriage, death and a child's birth certificate but due to the lack of full records in SA it hasn't been any use. She was born about 1832.  From her obituary I know she was reportedly from Tipperary and immigrated in 1855. Her marriage in 1859 states her father was Lawrence Quinlan, and she named a son Lawrence so this looks correct. No parish records of a Margaret born to Lawrence though on Roots Ireland. I have found an Ancestry DNA match who is desended from a Quinlan from Rossmore which is how I came to your post. His tree had a Lawrence Quinlan born in 1876 in Rossmore so may be a distant relative. I felt Lawrence Quinlan was relatively unusual and worth following up as a family name. So I'm afraid I'm the blind helping the blind! How wonderful to have been to Ireland, warm regards Jess.

I found Quinlans in civil parishes of Clogher  and Clonoulty, in Griffiths Valuation.   www.askaboutireland. ie Tipp south and Barony  of Kilnamanagh lower .

The Catholic  Church  records   for the Parish  of Clonoulty/Rossmore,  now  on line free at www.registersnli.ie.

They start in 1805,

With the scant knowledge I have on Richard I have been trawling the National Library of Ireland Catholic Church records for Clonoulty/Rossmore for a few years now and have found several instances of possible family connections.  I have tried to follow the Irish tradition of naming but over time they do not always follow pattern. 

There are Quinlans from Skeheenarinky that I found from the Griffiths Valuation that I do not believe to be part of Richard's family.

I found another Richard Quinlan from the Rossmore area, of approximately the same birth date so this has been confusing also.  This Richard was a widower with at least three children I have been able to locate. 

Jess if you would like to email me at kermit_bullfrog@hotmail.com with any information that you have on Margaret I may be able to help you a little further.  Lawrence (Laurence) was a popular name in our family,  Have you researched the SA Genealogical and Historical Society records?

Hi everyone, I know it is almost 4 and half years later but I have been following this thread. My 3x gr grandfather Malachy Quinlan was baptized in Clonoulty,Tipperary Ireland Sept. 1813. He was the son of Tim Quinlin and Mary Ryan. I suspect all of the Quinlans from that area are somehow related. I posted a message earlier this afternoon about Malachy's daughter who was baptized in Moneygall, Tipperary Ireland in 1838 and had a twin sister Margaret. I don't think they are the same Margaret but could very well be related. I am making a trip to Ireland in 2024 and would love to find some distance relatives. Hi Debbie It is probable the Quinlans are related but I do not have anyone from that area nor a Malachy. Check out the Griffith Valuation of the area with and also Find My Past is a good resource as is Roots Ireland. Good luck Deb
