My third great grandfather James Leahy lived here in 1901 according to the 1901 census linked below. Born circa 1842 married Honora Keely. Known children are Michal (born 1865), James (born 1872), and who I descend from Mary (1876-1914). Does anyone know anything on James Leahy or any Leahy family in this area?

Hi Ryan,
I attach Civil records of the births of Mary Leahy - 1864; Michael - 1865 and James 1872. Parents: James Leahy and Honoria Kiely.
The address for Mary and Michael is Rathduff and for James - Cullen. Both addresses are in the Registration District of Emly and the Civil parish of Cullen - Barony of Clanwilliam. I did not find any baptismal record for them in www.rootsireland.ie or a marriage record for James and Honoria
Civil registrations for births are from January 1st. 1864.
You will find a number of families named Leahy in the area.

Ryan,
Further to previous post, Griffith's valuation c1850 has "Lahy" and Kiely in the townland of Rathduff. A check for the surname "Keely" in Souith Tipperary only show 3 entries. It is likely that Honoria's surname was Kiely rather than Keely, even though this appears to be the spelling in the baptism record for James.

There is a baptism record for a "James Leahy" in 1838 - Possible?

My great great grandfather was Denis Leahy from area around Thurles (Moycarkey and Fetherd). Please look up the Leahy ancestor project on Gedmatch and Facebook.
