Hi, I was intrigued to find a Newcastle in Ireland as I have lived in Newcastle in NSW, Australia. My many times great grandma was born around 1785 in Newcastle, County Tipperary. Margaret Whalan married Patrick Grady (1788 Tipperary) around 1806, also in Newcastle.
I would love to hear from any Whalans, or get more information on the Whalans
regards Mary

Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!
There are many Newcastles in Ireland.
The RC parish register for Newcastle/Fourmilewater RC church starts in 1814 for baptisms and 1822 for marriages. You did not indicate when the family left Ireland so maybe there were family baptisms after 1814

I also looked at the 1850 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Newcastle parish and there were four Whelan records in Kilnacarriga and Clashganny West townlands. Likely your family came from one of those townlands.
