Hi,
I am searching for information on Daniel Murphy born about 1818 in Kilcommon (son of Daniel and Kate Murphy). Daniel married Johanna Touhey (daughter of Mary Carey and Thomas Touhey).
Daniel and Johanna came to Australia around 1850s. Daniel and Johanna later sponsored Johanna's mother Mary, sister also Mary born about 1837, brother John born about 1841 and sister Bridget born about 1839 to come to Australia after the death of Johann?'s father Thomas in Ireland.
I have not been able to find any information on Daniel and Johanna's emigration from Ireland or information on their births or marriage. I would also appreciate information regarding Daniel and Johanna's parents.
Thanks
Leanne

Hi Leanne
Sorry,I don't have any info for Leanne in her query in relation either with Murphys or Touheys. Although both surnames existed in our parish nothing matches. Kilcommon, though bordering Upperchurch and Drombane parish is a seperate parish to ours. Perhaps Fr Woods parish priest of Kilcommon might be able to assist.----Note: the spelling of the name Touhey is more commonly spelt as Tuohy. Regards Eugene

Hi Leanne. There is one birth record for a Daniel Murphy in the Kilcommon records for ? June 1819. His parents are John and Bridget Murphy and the sponsors are Daniel Ryan and Margaret Carr. There is no Daniel and Kate Murphy registered as having children in Kilcommon at all.
I have found a marriage of Mary Carew of Kilcommon to Thomas Tuohy sponsored by Michael Carew and Daniel Ryan on 26/01/1826.Carew was interchangeable with Carey at this time and largely depended on who was writing the register as to how it was spelled. Thomas is registered as coming from Nicker in Pallasgreen which is in Limerick. Thomas and Mary do not have any children in Kilcommon.
Mary may be a relative of mine but without any birth record for her, records started around 1814 but seem to be a bit erratic until 1818 or so, I can't say without going back to my notes. I will let you know but it won't be soon as I will need time to get my head around them again!
I am going to Dublin for research purposes this weekend (I live in London) and will try to find out if Thomas and Mary settled in Pallasgreen. If they did, and Johanna married there, it may indicate her husband (Daniel's) birthplace. It will also give her siblings birth dates and places. I hope to find something out for you.

Hi Fiona
Great to hear from you.
I have not had a chance to look at the info you sent me against records I have, but I had a lady in Ireland do some professional geanological research for me and the name of Carr has came to light and also Ryan's as sponsors/relatives. If you could provide me with your email address I could send you a copy of the report she sent me to check if there are any similarities. My email address is leanne.grogan@bigpond.com
I am confident we are on the right track here as the researcher mentions Pallasgreen and Nicker.
I will look more closely at the above mentioned report and records hopefully over the weekend.
Thank you for making contact, it has been a long search with very little incoming info until recently.
Kindest regards
Leanne

The only birth of a Daniel Murphy in Kilcommon is on ? June 1819. The child?s parents are John and Bridget Ryan and the sponsors are Daniel Ryan and Margaret Carr. There is no record of any couple called Daniel and Kate Murphy having children at any time in Kilcommon. It may be that Daniel is an only child or the last child of the couple and was born before records began. The first Murphy birth is on 04th July 1818.There is a marriage record of Mary Carew marrying a Thomas Tuohy on 26th January 1826. The sponsors were Michael Carew and Daniel Ryan. The names Carey and Carew are interchangeable, and usually depend on how the person recording the birth spelled it. Mary may be a relative of mine, I suspect her father and my Great, Great, Great Grandfather may have been brothers, but without a birth record for her I can?t prove that. Thomas Tuohy is recorded as coming from Nicker in Pallasgreen which is in Limerick.Thomas and Mary don?t have any children in Kilcommon. They may have moved to Nicker to Thomas? people. If they did all births and Johanna?s marriage would have been recorded there. If you are lucky it may also record where Daniel comes from, which indeed may be Kilcommon. The recording of births seems to be very sporadic until about 1818.I am going to Dublin (I live in London) at the weekend for my own research. I will have a look at Pallasgreen?s records to see what I can find out for you -
Hi Clare,
Thanks for your post.
I have attached a copy of the report that was compiled for me by a geaneologist in Ireland as I mentioned in my previous post. It may be of help. There are other docs that she forwarded me but at the moment there would be too many to send together. If need be I could scan them together and send later to make one document.
Regards
Leanne
