I am looking for a baptism of Mary BUTLER b about 1860 supposedly " Ballyporeen" from her marriage certificate 1879 when she married Peter DAVIDSON in Dalby Queensland.
Mary's parents were William BUTLER and Bridget CAGNEY who married in the parish of Ballylooby in 1855.
I would also love to know of any siblings of Mary.

Hi Judy,
Most of the church records for tipp south are on www.rootsireland.ie. Have you searched this database yet?

Thanks Anne
Unfortunately the baptisms for Templetenny are only online for a much earlier period. 1817-1828

Hi Judy,
Thank you for replying to my post. What many people don't realise is that there is a BIG difference between county boundaries and parish boundaries. Go back to www.rootsireland.ie and you will find that the remaining parish registers for Ballyporeen 1817-1864 can be found in the Co. Waterford genealogy centre. I found one Mary Butler date range 1860 +- 5 years.
You'll need to pay to view this record, but it is minimal at about €5.
If you are researching any other relatives always look at neighbouring counties. If a village is near a boundary the records are often recorded in either one or both counties.
Kind regards,

The only reference I could see under Waterford was for an 1817 Baptismal register.
Tipperary South seemed to have 1817-1828
Am I looking on the wrong page of Sources? http://www.rootsireland.ie/ifhf/generic.php?filename=sources.tpl&selectedMenu=sources

I have found it ..under other sources and wowee have downloaded Mary's baptism 1857 which seems correct [unless they had another mary in another parish :( ]
Thank you for encouraging me to look further!
One of Mary's sponsors was Mary PYNE.
There is a Thomas BUTLER living on land leased from a Thomas PINE in Griffiths valn of Lyrefune [1851]
so I think I am on the right track.
Other children from a search of the Ballyporeen Baptismal register:[yet to be comfirmed by purchasing the records]
Thomas 1856
Michael 1859
Ellen 1860
Cheers and thanks again

Hello Judy,
I have just seen your query re your Butler. My Thomas Butler was the son of Michael and Mary née Perkins. His marriage and death certificates show that he was born in Holycross, Tipperary. The age given on each certificate is different but I have ascertained that he was born around 1865. He came to Toowoomba around 1880. I too have Mary, James, Bridget, Ellen and William. Might I add that you would drive past my door enroute to Toowoomba !
I would be interested to hear from you. It would be much easier to compare notes by my email which is glensheerose@bigpond.comCheers,
Rose
