If you go to http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/index.jsp & search on the "Butler" surname & "Templetenny" parish, you will find [heads of families] William Butler & Thomas Butler farming together in Lyrefoun [aka Lyrefune] townland, Templetenny parish in 1834 [pg 74 of the 1834 tithe applotment book].
William & Thomas Butler were farming more than 30 acres in 1834 on land leased from the Earl of Kingston in Lyrefune but later crops failed during the Potato Famine of 1845-1852. Even major landowners were in economic difficulty & this part of the Earl of Kingston's estate in Templetenny Parish was sold to the Irish Land Company in 1852.
If you go to http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=nameSearch & search on Butler & Templetenny, you will find 1852 listings & images for Michael Butler & Thomas Butler in Lyrefune townland as well. These Butler family members were no longer farming large-scale in 1852, they are simply tenants of cottages & gardens rented or sub-let from their new landlord, the Irish Land Company.
You already have found & searched the online Templetenny Parish Roman Catholic Church records at http://waterford.rootsireland.ie/ .
You may find there the baptismal record of William Collins [christened Dec 14, 1848 in Our Lady of the Assumption Roman Catholic Church, Ballyporeen [which replaced the old parish church at Knocknagopple in 1828], son of William Collins & Affy Butler.
Possibly this William Collins is a descendant or family connection of my ancestor John Collins (c1787 - Nov 11, 1826) of Coolprivane aka Coolapreavan townland, Templetenny Parish.
John Collins' son William Collins married Mary Clancy (born c1800 in Curraleigh?) June 8, 1820 in the old Templetenny Roman Catholic Parish Church. William Collins & Mary Clancy had 9 children born in Coolapreavan, including William Collins (christened July 23, 1826). I thought perhaps William Collins (chr July 23, 1826 - ?) might be Affy Butler's husband. Unfortunately Collins is a very common name & I haven't been able to decide whether individuals named Collins in Coolapreavan, Dangan & Lyrefune in Templetenny parish are related or not.
If you come across any Collins family info while researching your Butler family in Templetenny Parish, please share it with me.
I am descended from John Collins' son, James Collins (c1806 - Aug 11, 1883). James Collins (c1806 - Aug 11, 1883), wife Mary Walsh (c1815 - May 18, 1869) & 6 children left Coolapreavan, county Tipperary, Ireland in the Spring of 1851 to settle in Ontario, Canada. I have a good knowledge of genealogical resources in Ontario but have found no record of the William Collins branch of the family there or with family connections in Ireland. Perhaps they emigrated to Australia or ? I'd be grateful for family info. Thank you for your attention & help with family research.
