Hi
Thomas Ryan (Mahony) married Mary Moroney 13 Jan 1862 in Thurles (see separate post).
They had maybe 14 children. I have received baptism records which appear to indicate that the elder children may have been baptised in Thurles, Cappagh, Cappahg White and Doon. Alternatively, when they moved to Doon the PP recorded the baptisms in the local Doon records.
Thomas worked at the Doon convent until his death sometime in the 1880's. The family also lived on site, near a part of the school grounds known as Mahony's Haggard (nothing but rocks by the 1970's).
My main enquiry is chasing down Thomas Ryan fathers name. As you can imagine Ryan is very common.
What i have so far:
- 1901 Irish Census there is one person whose surname is listed as Ryan Mahony. His name is John and he lives in Doon with wife, children and 1 neice.
- Her surname is CROWE.On the baptism records for my Ryan Mahony children a Margaret Crowe is listed as a god morther. The location is listed as: LISAUGH, DOON, 22 May 1873, sponsors Michael RYAN and Margaret CROWE
This apparently still leaves approx 1000 possible births in the region to a family with children named Thomas, John and Margaret.
Appreciate anything you may have.
Brendan
