I'm researching the family of Hugh Mulcahy, b.1823. He married Mary Delaney in 1845 in Fethard. They left Ireland in 1847 after the birth of their first son, Francis Phillip. They went to England and then left England in 1850 and arrived in America and settled in Newark, Essex County, New Jersey. Hugh's father along with Hugh owned land in Thurles according to Griffith's Valuation.

Any information on where I can try to locate records for Hugh Mulcahy would be very much appreciated. Thank you!

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

I looked for a Hugh Mulcahy baptismal record around 1823 on Find My Past but was unsuccessful. Here is the link to the parish register for Thurles  http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0280 I note that there was a gap in records from November 1821-August 1822. Also it is possible that Hugh was baptized in a parish that no longer has records back to the early 1820s.

The Griffiths Valuation survey in Tipperary was conducted around 1849-1850. The 1823 Hugh was gone by the time the survey was conducted.

  • Thanks very much, Roger, for getting back to me. I am probably just going to have to guess-timate Hugh's father's year of birth and then start searching based on that and see where it leads me. I pretty much have everything on my GGfather Hugh (b.1823); it's his father and siblings that are my next goal. Thanks so much for your input; I really appreciate it!
