I am researching Johanna Delahunty who was born about 1931 and immigrated to Australia arriving 7 July 1854. Passenger list information lists her place of origin as Tipperary (Thurles), Her marriage certificate (1857 in Geelong Victoria Australia) registers her father as James and her mother as Ellen Coleman.
Would be interested in any information on the Delahunty family of James and Ellen in early 1800s.

Hi,
Thank you for your message.
Have you tried looking in Church records for information? Most catholic records are held locally, one website which you may find helpful however is the Irish Times. Here they give an overview of what records are available in specific parishes. For Thurles parish follow this link:
For Church of Ireland records check http://ireland.anglican.org/about/42 and http://www.nationalarchives.ie/. The Anglican Record Project is has created an index to their records: http://ireland.anglican.org/cmsfiles/pdf/AboutUs/library/AngRecord/bunclodyunionindex.pdf
You may also find some records at www.familysearch.org This is a huge database of genealogical records compiled by the Church of the Latter Day Saints. It includes some baptismal/marriage records in the pre11871 period.
You could also try searching for some record of the Delahuntys in the land records pertaining to Ireland in the 19th century. There are two:
The Tithe Applotment Books (1823-1838) found at http://titheapplotmentbooks.nationalarchives.ie/search/tab/home.jsp
and the later Griffith?s Valuation (1848-1864) found at http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/
Some other websites which you may find helpful are:
The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/
The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx
