Hi Everyone

I have traced a family member back to Tipperary, Ireland unfortunately I do not have any other information as the information came from a ship's passenger manifest.

His name is George Bourke/Burke-I have both spellings born abt 1841 Tipperary. He sailed as a 10 year old lad 03rd June 1854 from Plymouth on board the "Maitland" with who appears to be a brother Michael, 25 yo, sister Honora 18 yo and Kate 8 yo. They arrived Hobart Town Tasmania Australia 16th September 1854. Michael appears to have been sent out by Mr William Lancy.

George died in Zeehan Tasmania Jan 1913. That unfortunately is about as much as I can give anyone.

Perhaps someone out there can help

Thanking you in advance

Warm Regards

I checked the Roots Ireland records www.rootsireland.ie and located an 1841 baptismal record for a George Bourke/Burke in the Newport RC records. The parents were George and Catherine.

I don't know if this is your ancestor but it is a lead.

Because of its size Co. Tipperary on Roots is split into North Tipperary and South Tipperary. New port RC church covers four civil parishes in the southwest part of North Tipperary where Co. Limerick meets Co. Tipperary. The civil parishes are: Kilcomenty, Killoscully, Kilnarath and Kilvellane.

Roots Ireland is a pay site and they now require that you obtain a subscription to view their transcriptions of church records.
