I am looking for information on a John Gleeson. According to the notes that I have, he was born June 1833 Glen Hill Parish Bougher County Tipperary. I seem to be having problems finding either town or parish. He married Margaret Raill from County Westmeath (only after meeting in the USA and marrying in Iowa). He died in 1917 in Chamberlain SD.
From what I have, his parents are Micheal Gleeson and Anne Keogh. Micheal and Anne had five kids from what I gather: Anne, Kate, John, and unnamed female and Patrick I.
I have some notes from a family bible that I have yet to track down. "The Gleesons were 12 Irish miles from Limerick" There is also a note reading " Main Co. Castle Pollard Mullinger Community, Westmeath Ire." and "Nanaugh, birthplace of all the O'Gleasons" Some of the spellings might not be right from the interpretations. Any and all information on this family would be greatly appreciated. Thank You.

Hi Kathleen
Just some general notes which may be of help
It is possible that the Boughter you refer to is Boher which is a small townland near the towns of Ballina Co Tipperary and Kilaloe Co Clare which is just across the river Shannon it would be approx. 12 miles from Limerick city and approx.another 12 in the opposite direction to Nenagh Co Tipperary which may be the place you refer to as Nanaugh there are quite a few Gleeson families there and from the 1901 census at least one Gleeson family near Ballina am adding link...

Castlepollard Co Westmeath may be the other place you refer to

Thank you so much, now I have a better place to start with. It's hard to interpret sometimes and places seem to change names so I wasn't quite sure. Thank you and I will let you know what I come up with. It's a slow process being this far away lol. Have a happy new year.
