Hi everone, this is my first posting in the Parish and would like to enquire if anyone has any information on Michael Bain who was born in Tipperary in 1814. His fathers name was Jaseph Bain and Micheal emigrated to South Africa in the early 1800's. When in South Africa he married Maria Talbot the daughter of John Talbot who was an 1820 settler to South Africa, in November of 1844. He and a sister Eliza Bain who married Benjamin Hall. My main query is on Michael, I would like to find out his actual date of birth, who his mother was and if possible his grand parents.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thank you
Rob

Hi Tom,
Thanks for the info and the one for Eliza is promising. In my tree I have her down as Micheal's sister who married a Benjamin Hall, however the fathers name is not the same and I don't have any record of their mother. Jaseph Bain is the name I have got but who knows if this is correct. The Birth date I have for Eliza is 1824, but again who says that is correct.
Is there anywhere that may show the passengers that went out to South Africa?
Best Regards
Rob

Hi there, Rob
It turns out that Michael Bain and Maria Talbot are my great-great-great grand-parents, through John Josiah Bain --> Lilian Mary Maria Bain --> Myrtle Kathleen Osborne --> Ian Rawson Chapman (my biological father).
I wonder if you would like to collaborate, although I am only one week into drawing up my family tree?
If so, please email me at evansnyman2@gmail.com
South Africans are only just starting to digitise their records, and I know that they are working on capturing the passenger lists. I will see if I can track their shipping movements from this end.

Hi again
I was looking at our various shipping lists and then I recalled that their movement would have coincided with a big immigrations movement that we call the 1820 Settlers. It seems that Thomas Fancutt was also among the Settlers and so was Michael Bain. I will ook into this further - eg I think that the codes refer to our archives...

Me again
According to this family tree there is a wedding certificate for Eliza Bain in the Grahamstown Anglican church. She must have been Michael's sister/
