Greetings from New Zealand!
Thomas (possibly Thomas James) Gleeson married Charlotte Morris in Capetown, South Africa 13 Nov 1839. They were both listed as 'servants' and Charlotte as 'not of full age'. We have no idea when/how they got to South Africa, but family stories have Thomas 'being de-mobbed there from "the army" after serving in India and Africa. He was born abt 1808 (supposedly 'in Tipperary') and died Auckland NZ 1869. Charlotte was born 'in England' abt 1820 and died in Auckland 1901.
They sailed from Capetown to NZ on the brig 'Antilla' with their newborn son Frederick James and Charlotte's sister, Caroline Morris, arriving Dec 1841. A further 8 children were born here - Ellen Eliza, Charles, Charlotte, Mary Anne, Thomas, Arabella, Louisa Jane, and Joseph.
Charles was my gr grandfather. Any assistance/suggestions appeciated.

Hello Lloyd
I went to www.rootsireland.ie and did a quick search and found 2 records for a Thomas Gleeson in that timeframe in Co. tipperary. You would have to pay to view these records but it's not expensive.
The English were great for keeping records so you will possibly find Thomas in the muster rolls at the English National Archives. WO13/2574 3370 Look online also at www.originsnetwork.com
Happy hunting.

Anne
