I am looking for a baptism and a marriage for Mary.
I believe that my great great grandmother was born in Clogher around 1830. The only place that I have found her maiden surname is on a Catholic baptism register for her son in Waterford City and it looks more like "Kearay" to me rather than "Kearny" as it was transcribed - see attachment 2.
She married a soldier called Robert Mitchell at some point before 1851. He was in the Armagh Militia, the 48th regiment of Foot and latterly the 18th Regiment of Foot - she appears to have travelled with him. A note on one of his Army records says "Protestant".
1851 England census, place of birth looks like [Clogher, Cty Tyrone, Ireland]? - see attachment 1 for "Mary Mitchell" Nurse.
1861 England census, place of birth definitely Tyrone, Ireland.
In Waterford, Ireland in 1871, so no other census entry.
Nothing definite found in 1841 census yet.
Her first daughter was called Margaret Lucy, so this may be after her mother as per Irish naming conventions?
She only had one son who was named Robert after his father's father (or father) , though he did have a middle name of Frederick which maybe from her family?
She died in Merthyr Tyfil, Glamorgan, Wales in 1880 aged 50.
Thanks for any help.

Thanks very much for replying and for all the information.
I had previously noted the Robert Mitchell/Mary Maher 1849 marriage, but had only found an index transcription. After seeing the extra details that you supplied, I checked into it further. Unfortunately, it appears to be a different couple as this soldier was in the 49th Foot regiment rather than the 48th and had children in different times and places to my ancestor - shame, it had looked promising.
I don't have a subscription to rootsireland.ie currently and can't remember - do you get to see an actual image of the marriage entry or just a transcription?
I will look into that baptism in Killeshill, it is quite close to Clogher.
Thanks again.
