I have been told that my Moynaghs came from Clogher. I have even found a marriage record for the family in the Clogher parish books, but it did not list the townland unfortunately. My first Moynagh to emigrate was Hugh Moynagh, born about 1834 in Ireland. His parents were Hugh Moynagh (sometimes Robert Hugh) and Bridgid McGuire. They came to Canada first, to New Brunswick, and then settled in the Peel, Ontario area. My Hugh married Mary Maria Campbell and they traveled to the Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA area, and then to South Dakota in 1879. Thank you!

Hello again!
The 1859 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing for Clogher civil parish in Tyrone shows a good number of Moynaghs but no Robert or Hugh. http://www.failteromhat.com/griffiths/tyrone/clogher.htm
I did locate a record on Find My Past (subscription site) which may be important. The Old Age Pension program started i Ireland in 1909. You had to be 70 and have an income below a certain threshold. You had to prove that you were 70 and many applicants had the 1841 and 1851 census returns searched to show their age. These census returns were eventually destroyed in 1922 during the Irish Civil War. The record I found was an 1851 census search form processed when a Mary Moynagh (married named Tierney) filed for the pension in 1921. She alleged her parents were Robert and Jane Moynagh and the census search proved that she was living in 1851 and therefore eligible for the pension in 1921. She had siblings listed including a Hugh. The family lived in either Nurchossy Irish or Nurchossy Scotch townlands. The only flaw with this record would be the mother's first name of Jane rather than Bridget.

When did your Hugh Moynagh marry Mary Campbell and did they marry in Ireland? Here is the link to the RC parish register.

Thank you, again! Hugh Moynagh and Mary Campbell married in Guelph, Ontario, Canada, in 1859 I believe. (off the top of my head without my notes in front of me!) Hugh's parents, Robert Hugh or Hugh Moynagh and Bridgid McGuire Moynagh emigrated to Canada also, with Hugh. They arrived in Canada by 1840, because they have children born in Canada then.

OK then obviously the 1851 census record is for a relative but it is a possible clue where Hugh or Robert Hugh and family lived in Clogher parish.

Hello kamcglynn,
Ive been trying to organize Moynas for a long time, so finally I came up with a website where I added all the information I could find. This is only for the County of Tyrone. There are Moynas in Monaghan, Cavan, and Fermanagh too. Im not sure about your Moynas, but I did enter information by townlands, including Nurchossy, and the names you mention sound familiar.
please take a look, and let me know, also read the part about DNA, I just did it myself, and it may be the only way to move forward with these families for which there are so few records from1800 to 1850.
Please let me know what you think and if we should add anything to your branch, although Im concentrating only on the 1800s.
hope to hear from you, here is the website:
