My 3rd gr grandfather, William Barber was born in Ireland in 1778. We know he either lived in or was from Newtownstewart, Co. Tyrone. He was married to margaret Armour of Ayrshire, Scotland and he was a freighter. Thier children were William, John, Margie,Matthew, Elinor and Armour.
John and Will left from Queenstown in 1833 for NY and William and Margaret along with the other children left in 1835. It has been recorded there was other family still there in Ireland and the desire to return to see family again was long on thier mind, even back to my own grandfather.
The family history has been going since 1870 when some of the children of Willam were still alive to give this information.

Presbyterian and Church of Ireland Baptism and marriage records for the period you are looking at are nearly all lost, so you may find it difficult to trace your family with certainty. There were about 15 Barber households in the parish of Ardstraw (which includes Newtownstewart) in Griffiths Valuation in 1859:
