Francis Calderwood, born abt. 1814,  Margaret Loy,born abt. 1816,  believe married & possibly born in County Tyrone. son William born abt. 1838, son John born abt. 1836. They moved to Wigton, Cumberland, England. Daughter Jane born 1841, Wigton, Cumberland, shows as being 10 days old on 1841 census.

I think Francis had a brother Robert born abt.1812 & a brother Thomas born abt. 1803. Thomas listed as widow,on 1841, Wigton, Cumberland, Eng. with a son James, born abt. 1835, dau. Elizabeth, born abt. 1837, dau. Ann born abt.1839, dau. Margaret, born abt. 1942. all born Ireland, County Tyrone ?

The father of Francis , Robert, Thomas , I think is George Calderwood, born abt. 1790, Ireland, died 1857, Wigton, Cumberland, Eng. He could have a brother John born, abt. 1994. he married Sarah in Wigton, Cumberland.

  • Hi,

Thank you very much for your message.  I hope that someone who knows of the family makes a connection with you.

Unfortunately, it may be difficult to find information without a more specific place of origin. Most Irish record sources- church records, land records, census records- are based on specific locations. Until you know a specific location within Ireland, preferably a parish or placename, it may be difficult to do anything more with these records.

Do you have any documentation pertaining to the family that mentions any place names in Tyrone at all? This can include wills, marriage/death records, census records, letters, diary entries etc.

There are a couple of places where you can search online, however please note these websites do not have complete collections.

www.familysearch.org has a huge database of genealogical records including some church records for Ireland.

www.rootsireland.ie have a large collection of Irish Church records, however you have to pay to use this site.

You could also try contacting the Irish World Heritage Centre in Tyrone for some assistance, however a fee may apply. Here is their email: info@irish-world.com

In the meantime, some websites that you may find useful are:

The National Archives of Ireland http://www.nationalarchives.ie/genealogy1/genealogy-records/introduction/

The National Library of Ireland http://www.nli.ie/en/family-history-introduction.aspx

The National Archives UK ? genealogy search: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/looking-for-person/

The Public Records Office of Northern Ireland http://www.proni.gov.uk/index/family_history.htm

    Genealogy Links: http://www.genealogylinks.net/uk/ireland/tyrone/index.html

Remember to post any new information that you find particularly concerning parish of origin. The more information you post, the more likely it is that one of our volunteers will be able to advise or assist you. Also include information concerning which sources you may have already used so others may further your search.

    Kind regards,

    Genealogy Support
