Calling all local genealogists. Looking for information about the family of William “Billy” O’Connell who ran the Clashmore Post Office in the 1940s and 1950s. His father Thomas O’Connell had previously run it (Billy’s mother was Annie Carey). Billy’s brothers were Tommy and Jackie (John). The latter wrote a history of Clashmore in 2003. Thanks.

    Welcome to Ireland reaching Out!

I checked the 1911 censu for Clashmore and there were no Connells or O'Connells in the town. We do not have any parish liaisons in Co. Waterford. See this link http://www.discoverclashmore.com/discoverhome.html   At the bottom right side of the page is a Contact Us link. I would e-mail and see if they can assist with your O'Connell family.

  • Yes, thanks Roger, I have already checked the usual sources. I was hoping for some local liaison for this parish. I will use the link as you suggest. Regards rocon17

  • Hi Olivia. Thank you that is very kind. My O'Connells also came from Clashmore and I am trying to build up a database of all Connell/O'Connells from Clashmore/Youghal area and hopefully establish genealogical links. I have William's father as Thomas and grandfather as John (married Alice Curran), great grandfather also John. Is that correct? I was also interested to know what happened to William and his 3 siblings - did any of the families stay in the area? Regards. Rocon17
