John Britt b. 1801 married Ellen Tierney b. 1806 on January 16, 1834 registered in Portlaw and Ballyduff Parish. They had a son named Patrick May 31, 1836 before leaving for Canada in 1837. They lived in Bytown (Ottawa) for over 15 years before moving to Kensington, Quebec. John may have had a brother Patrick b. approx. 1812 who either married a Johanna Brennan for she was his mother. There was also a Helen Britt b. approx. 1819 who also went to Canada. I would imagine Ellen Tierney was from Portlaw as they married there but would like to know where John Britt was from. He named his first son Patrick and his first daughter Honora so I'm hoping his parents were Patrick and Honora. Thanks,
Dianne Britt

Welcome back!
I looked at Roots Ireland and there had baptisms in 1812, 1813 and 1815 for a Patrick britt. The only one in Portlaw was the 1812 record which is below. Maybe this record is for the brother of John.

Hi,
I saw that Patrick but he named his first son Thomas and his first daughter Honora or Johanna, hence, that is not the one but thank you for checking. I'm thinking that my Britts may have been from Carrick-on-Suir or even Kilkenny. There was a Patrick Britt who married an Honora Morrifsey (spelled that wasy, so I'm not sure if it Murphy of even Morrissey in 1792 in Carrick-on-Suir. They show up again in 1805 in Kilkenny city but nothing in between. There is also a John Britt who married Honora Ryan in 179? from Thurles, Tipperary. There was the cotton mill at the time of my John so maybe he moved there to work as I believe he was not the first son because he left Ireland before the famine, therefore, there had to be an opportunity to do so. It all becomes very confusing but I will keep at it until I find them. Thanks,
Dianne

Dianne:
I actually found three records and the one in 1815 was in Portlaw. For some reason it did not pop up before.
