My great grandfather William Flynn came from Dunmore. I found this reference in Royal Navy documents created when he was a sailor with the Royal Navy. His father was James Flynn William was born in "Dunmore" on 20 December 1842. He joined the Royal Navy in 1859 at age 17 sailing out of "Queenstown" on HMS Hawke as a "boy second class". He eventually finished up in Adelaide South Australia where he married Jane McMahon an Irish lass from County Cavan. Is there any knowledge of this Flynn family amongst the people of Killea parish. I would love to know if there are family graves there for us to visit and which might shed light on who the other members of this family were or any information in the parish church records.
Thank you

Hi William,
My ancestors are also from the Dunmore East/Killea Parish area. The Catholic church in Killea ( Holy Cross ) has quite a few Flynn graves... ( http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gsr&GSiman=1&GScid=237974… )
I've found that the online church records are pretty complete for Killea ( assuming Catholic ),,have you looked for Flynn births and marriages?
Griffith's Valuation shows 51 Flynn's in the Barony of Gaultier, some might be relatives.
If you are on Facebook, there are several groups you might look at... County Waterford Genealogy, Killea/Dunmore East/Ballymacaw history discussion forum, Dunmore East Ireland, Wateford History Group, County Waterford History $ Genealogy are some of them....

Hi Barbara
I have just now reviewed this post and realize to my shame that I had not ever responded to your thoughtful post. So firstly a very belated thank you for taking the trouble to respond to me. Since then I have visited Ireland a couple of times (and it is such a long journey from my home here in Australia) and managed to get to Dunmore where I was able to attend Sunday mass then have a look around the graveyard attached to the church. I saw many Flynn graves but none that I could directly link with my family ancestors James Flynn and William Flynn. I am sure there must be Flynn families still living in the area to whom we are related but I had no way of locating or identifying them. However it was very satisfying to have visited our ancestral lands and to have seen for myself the village of Dunmore East and to have a drink in the local pub.
Kind regards
