Hello to all, My Name is Edward Cavanaugh from the US. I wanted to know if anyone know of any family by the name of Commins. My Great Grandmother name was Alice and her Mother name was a Mary McGrath Commins. Her father name was John Commins. My Great Grandmother Alice was born Nov of 1868 and married a Maurice Donohue a blacksmith. They had my grandmother Mary, Minni, Donohue. My grandmother came to the states in the early 19th and settled in Phildelphia. I dont know to much or any of my grandmother family so I was hoping maybe someone could help here. My Great Grandmother Alice died in 1895. I thank you for your help and may all have a better year than last.

ALICE COMMINS was baptized 4 Nov 1868 in the RC parish of Kill, Waterford. Sponsors: Thomas and Margaret Commina.
From www.rootsireland.ieHer birth was registered as follows:
ALICE CUMMINS
Birth: 23-Nov-1868
Address: Serahan
Parish/District: Kilmacthomas, Co. Waterford
Father is a farmer.
Place of birth: Serahan.
Informant: Cummins John (Father) of Serahan.
Registration Date: 7 DEC 1868.
Registrar: Coghlan J.P..
Register: KILMAC BTH BK 2.
Union: Kilmacthomas.
Rootsireland.ieNote that Alice was baptized 19 days before her birth. What happened here is that her birth was registered late, her father did not want to pay the late fee, so he lied about her date of birth. I have seen this many time in Irish records.

WOW Patrica I can not thank you enough. Well maybe one day upon my visit to the area. May I ask one more thing of you. Would you know if there are any Cummins and or McGrath that are still in the area. Please do not make this hard on your self or anyone just asking. WOW again I have never found anything this far back on my research,. I thank you very much Edward Cavanaugh. I have been to Ireland 2x but did not know about Kilmacthomas, Co. Waterford. and in the Alice registration you have address Serahan and Informant Cummins John (father) of Serahan, Could you tell me what that means. Again I can not thank you enough,. Have a Glorious Weekend

You are very welcome, Edward. I'm glad you queried Serahan, which was a transcription from a handwritten record, because it turns out to be the townland of Scrahan. You can read about it here: https://www.townlands.ie/en/waterford/decies-without-drum/rossmire/kilm… You'd have to do some querying to find out if there are people in Scrahan with your family names. Maybe google and see if there is a Kilmacthomas heritage society, and if so, send them a query. Good luck.

Good morning Edward, There is a Kilmacthomas Historical Society but they don't have a website. Their members would have plenty of knowledge of Scrahan and neighbouring townlands. If you'd like to send me an email - cianflaherty96@gmail.com - I can put you in touch with them. Best wishes, Cian
